March 12: John 6:32-40

Key Verse: John 6:35
Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

Devotion:
I wonder what went through the disciples minds when they heard Jesus talking like this – about being the Bread of Life! This was soon after Jesus fed the five thousand, so they had seen Him provide physical food for the people following them even when they did not have enough. They had been focused on the physical aspect of having bread to eat rather than the daily bread we now think of.

I do like my daily bread – the kind I bake myself using my bread machine – but I also like the daily bread I get by sitting down at my desk and reading the bible before putting these words down for many more to read. When I look back on how long I have been doing this, I am amazed at how I have been able to continue writing stuff for over 2 decades! Yes, I repeat myself now and again, but it is always in a new light.

The Word of God has been given to us for us to learn, remember, digest, meditate on and mimic in whatever ways we can. These are the instructions to life God has given us and how we will always be able to come to Him. Jesus came to earth to support and fulfil the words in our bibles. These all came from God in the beginning and will be with us throughout time!

When Jesus came to fulfil these words, He made sure everything He did was what God the Father told Him to do and everything He said was with God’s backing and blessing. When Jesus was baptised the word of God spoke out loud and declared Him as the Son of God. Whatever Jesus has taught has been the Word of God – our Daily Bread.

Points to Ponder:
How much do you read of your bible each day?

Will you spend an extra few minutes with God today?
