March 28: Mark 11:1-11

Key Verse: Mark 11:8
Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields.

Devotion:
When I got used to driving everywhere instead of walking, I used to read passages like this and wonder why people would walk such a long way to do anything – then I think back to a time when I went to play golf in Zimbabwe where I lived back then. We caught a bus to the gold course, played our round of gold and then went back out to wait for the next bus home... unfortunately that was the day the bus drivers went on strike! So we had to walk a long way back!

When we don’t have the means to drive anywhere we want, or to catch buses, we have to walk or not do things. The choice is ours. Jesus made the choice to come into Jerusalem close to 2000 years ago. A difficult choice to be made, not just because they had to walk a long way, but because Jesus knew what was going to happen after He entered Jerusalem!

God made the choice for this all to happen because of His great love for the human race. God allowed Jesus to step forward and become our Saviour once and for all; to suffer for our sins, to die on the cross, to be the pure, living sacrifice we needed to cover our sins; He did this with humility and mercy!

As we remember all Jesus has started in this most Holy Week in our Christian calendar, let us try to walk our lives giving glory to Christ for what He did. Let us think about the things in our lives which made this a requirement! Let us remember we have been fully forgiven by God because of what Jesus has done those many years ago!

Points to Ponder:
Do you know what Jesus did for you?

Will you try to live your life remembering why He did this?
