Galatians 5:17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

Have you ever found that when you try to take control of things in your own way that things get out of control instead? That just seems to be part of our life sometimes!

God explains it clearly to us because instead of following Him we are trying to make our own minds up for what should be done. When we do that we are working for ourselves and not for God – these two ways are in conflict with each other.

We may think that doing things our own ways will allow us to do what we want, but God is still in control and wants us to give up on our selfish ways and allow Him to show us the right ways.

Romans 13:14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.

In order to try and escape from the way the world does things we have to take on new and fresh ideas. The best way to do that is to allow someone new into your life – Jesus Christ.

That means giving Him control of things in your life. Whilst that does seem like a frightening thing at first, to give someone else control of your life, it is also very comforting to know that someone else actually knows what they are doing!

Allowing Christ control will show us just how much He can do for us and how special we are to Him – more so that the things we desire of this world.

Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Sometimes we get so caught up in the way that things should be done that we forget about how things should actually be done. What!?!?

Think about it. Sometimes we get caught up in doing things one way that we don’t want to change. We don’t think about whether it is right or correct, we just do it because we always have done it that way.

We need to let go of the ways that we are stuck in and allow God to guide us through His Word so that we can achieve more for Him and worry less about pleasing the world. God is important!

Leviticus 19:18 Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbour as yourself. I am the Lord.

When someone does something against us we immediately want to retaliate in some way because we do not like being abused in any way. Far too often we also bear grudges against those people because we find it hard to forgive them – especially when they do not say sorry!

Can you now imagine how God feels with so many of us doing things against Him every second of every day?

God is willing to forgive and forget our sins if we are willing to come to Him and say we are sorry – but we do have to mean it!
