Acts 13:4 The two of them, sent on their way by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and sailed from there to Cyprus.

How good are you at listening to God? Do you wait to hear something verbally, do you wait for some miracle to happen?

God is not going to change the world just so you listen to Him! He will more likely end up changing you so the rest of the world will listen!

The disciples listened to what the Holy Spirit told them – we need to do the same in our lives and move forward knowing we are following God’s will.

Psalm 107:1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures for ever.

One thing we can learn from reading our bibles is how much God has loved us from the very beginning.

We can see how much He has prepared for us and done for us by looking around us at the world we live in.

Don’t focus on what man has done, but what God has supplied for us to be able to accomplish so much!

Mark 10:19 You know the commandments: “You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honour your father and mother.”

I think many of us could quote a few rules we should not do; and many could say they have not broken those rules – when they stick to the exact wording of the rules...

Sometimes we like to bend the rules a little so we can get away with doing something we should not be doing!

God is watching us every step of the way. He continues to try to encourage us to do what is righteous in His sight.

God wants us to follow His rules, not our loose interpretation of them!

Mark 4:34 He did not say anything to them without using a parable. But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.

Do you find it hard to understand God’s Word at times?

Christ wants us to continue learning from Him and trusting in Him for everything.

He has given us the Holy Spirit to guide us and explain things to us; we simply have to trust and listen to Him for everything!

1 Samuel 17:28 When Eliab, David’s eldest brother, heard him speaking with the men, he burned with anger at him and asked, ‘Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle.’

How much opposition do you face when you stand up for God?

How many times have you given up because the opposition seems a bit much?

How many times have you looked back and wished you had stood up for God?

1 Samuel 17:20 Early in the morning David left the flock in the care of a shepherd, loaded up and set out, as Jesse had directed. He reached the camp as the army was going out to its battle positions, shouting the war cry.

Can you imagine the scene as both sides were measuring up to each other, shouting out war cries and pumping themselves up...

This reminds me of my school days as we used to stand and shout out our war cries to support our rugby team as they faced other schools.

Having support you can hear or feel is important for our encouragement – listen and watch what God does behind the scenes!

Ezekiel 18:1 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 ‘What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel: ‘“The parents eat sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge”?

And looking at this from the other side of things... No matter what your parents or guardians do, it is not going to be held against you!

Well, in human terms, people may; but God will not judge us according to what other people do – no matter how close they are to us.

What we do ourselves will be what God uses for or against us – not what others do.

Be encouraged and follow righteousness.

Ezekiel 18:1 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 ‘What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel: ‘“The parents eat sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge”?

How many times do you judge a child from what the parent is like or on what the parent(s) have done?

We tend to tar whole families rather than individuals because we think everyone grows up to be like their parents...

God says otherwise. God says we are all individuals and He will make sure we get treated by what we do and not by what anyone else does!

Psalm 34:18 The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

When you feel at your lowest – Christ is at His best and closest to you!

It seems odd and even strange Christ would be close to us because when we are down, we don’t feel it!

God wants us to rise from the broken places, be filled when empty, experience the joyful places in amongst the horror of the world...

Stop and listen...

Psalm 34:4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.

When was the last time you asked God to do something because you were scared to do it?

Has He ever asked you to do something which you have turned down because you thought you were not suited for it?

God knows what is best for us. He knows what we are best at. He knew this before we were born. That is why we should listen to Him!

Ezekiel 15:2 Son of man, how is the wood of a vine different from that of a branch from any of the trees in the forest?

The wood from a vine has fibres which bend and twist. They need to so the vine can cling to places and grow as required. You cannot use it to make things like furniture...

Wood from forest trees is very stiff and can be used to build sturdy structures and is good for things like furniture.

Each of us is different and can best be used in different ways by God. Look and listen...

Psalm 92:2 proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night

How do you show your love for Christ? Do you sing, dance, pray, do works, talk to people...

I hope you will take a bit of each of these and more to show your love for God today. Singing praises to Him is important, but so are all the other things we can do!

God wants us to be joyful and loving in our relationship with Him, encouraging others to join in all the time!

Psalm 112:7 They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.

One thing I found out in hospital was how to trust the Lord at all times.

We may go through tough times living here amongst the rest of the world, but God is standing by our sides and helping us when we ask.

Trusting more in God mean not having to fear bad news when we know it is inevitable. Trusting more in God gives us hope when the rest of the world sees none!

Acts 11:24 He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord.

Barnabas was not the one who started people turning to God. He was not the one who brought all the people to God... He was just a leader at that time who would continue to good work!

Far too often we count the numbers instead of the true intent. It is not our job to rake in people as if they are money!

God wants people to know Him in a very personal manner – this means opening God’s Word to them and allowing them to see the truth...

God is with us!

Psalm 55:22 Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.

Are you trying to carry all your troubles by yourself – because that is the way you were taught by your society?

Well, God has been trying to tell us to cast our burden on His shoulders for some time... and we have clearly not been listening!

It’s time to stop listening to the world and what it has to say and turn toward the truth and listen to what God has to say to us... really listen!

Mark 4:21 He said to them, ‘Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand?

When you are going to walk in the dark, do you put your torch in your pocket, or do you hold it out in front so you can see where you are going?

God has given us this love we have in our hearts and He wants us to share it with others people – this means sharing it and not trying to hide it in your pockets in case someone upsets you!

Allow the comfort of God to embrace you as you step forward and share your Christian love with others!

Matthew 5:37 All you need to say is simply “Yes,” or “No”; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.

When you want to make a promise, what do you back it up with? Words, deeds, money, people, time...

God wants our words to be more like His, promises which are to be kept at all times!

We should not have to go out of our way to make a promise – but to just say yes or no to make sure people understand your word is good and firm!

Mark 3:22 And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, ‘He is possessed by Beelzebul! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons.’

When we stand up and start trying to tell people the truth about God, we will very likely face trouble by people who don’t want the truth to come out!

Imagine it like a dark room where people are doing what they want without others being able to see what they are up to... Who wants the lights turned on?

God wants us to walk in the light all the time so we can remain in the truth and He in us!

Genesis 3:9 But the Lord God called to the man, ‘Where are you?’

No matter what you have done in your life, God is going to call out to you!

We learn from the world how we don’t get rewards when we have been bad... but things don’t work like that with God.

He may not give you rewards or treasures, but he is going to call out to you to see if you will listen... then things start to change!

1 Samuel 8:3 But his sons did not follow his ways. They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice.

What happens when you stop listening to God? The world gets louder, and you start listening to the world!

God continues to try and guide us through the Holy Spirit and by His Word. If we can’t be bothered to read and listen, we are not going to learn!

Stop for a minute and try listening out for God – maybe He is trying to tell you something but can’t get through because of the noise!
