Galatians 5:16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Do you despair when people tell you just how easy it was to turn away from sin in their lives? Do you wonder whether you will ever be able to be one of those who walks away from sin?
Don’t worry because you are not alone! I have heard many people say how they wish they could have my faith or be more like me and yet I know I am a sinner!
The truth is we all have our weaknesses but as long as we try to walk with God and allow Him to guide us through His Spirit, we have a far better chance at getting things right!
It is not easy to turn away from the world, so why not try asking God to help you rather than fighting by yourself?

John 15:7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
Jesus promised to carry out God’s will just as God had shown to David and many more over the years.
Where is the catch? We need to do what David was doing and continue to love and serve God as best we can.
We are not perfect and we make mistakes and fall flat on our faces at times. God knows we are not perfect, but He still loves us.
Love God with all you can and trust in Him as best you can. He wants to give you all the blessings in the world; if only we trust Him to do so…

Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
One of the best blessings I have had when saying goodbye to someone was for them to say “I pray God will give you the desires of your heart.”
What an awesome thing it is to know we serve a God who wants to be able to give us the desires of our heart.
David knew this first hand because of the blessings he has received over the years he had known God.
This is not a casual word let out by David but something he had grown up with knowing and wanted everyone to know it as their own personal truth too.

Mark 11:23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.
When Christ wanted to show how faith and trust in Him would result in amazing miracles He chose to turn the comparison of an immovable mountain on its head.
When we have faith enough to trust God can do anything, He will be able to deliver on His promise to answer our prayers beyond the normal and beyond the physical possibilities of this earth.
Nothing is impossible with God, but our lack of faith continues to limit our requests being made to Him.

Psalm 125:1 Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.
When was the last time you tried to pick up a huge boulder or a small hill? I guess you have not tried either!
It sounds nonsensical to think of moving a hill by yourself but by comparing God’s love for us with a hill shows us how His love will never be moved.
Nothing we can do will ever be able to move God’s love for us in any direction. He loves and protects far beyond our imagination.

Psalm 57:1 Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, Until these calamities have passed by.
David would write on occasion of how God delivered him from danger and peril; each time is real and the danger was real too.
God is able to look out for us in ways we cannot imagine and ways in which we find out later may only be described as being supernatural.
God is able. God is willing. God is faithful.
Trusting Him should be a matter of course and not a matter of faith or hope for us. We are the ones who doubt and we are the ones who are weak; not God!

1 Samuel 24:4 Then the men of David said to him, “This is the day of which the Lord said to you, ‘Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, that you may do to him as it seems good to you.’” And David arose and secretly cut off a corner of Saul’s robe.
When Saul entered into the cave he thought it was safe to do so because of his army he had waiting outside. He chose to enter into the darkness of the cave.
David had been in the dark cave longer than Saul and was probably used to the diminished light, but without any light he would not have been able to cut off a bit of Saul’s garment.
We all need light in our lives and the amount of light we allow into our lives will dictate how easy it is for us to see the obstacles we will come up against.
Let God’s light shone brightly to allow you to see everything in your path!

Proverbs 4:19 The way of the wicked is like darkness; They do not know what makes them stumble.
When people continue to want to walk in the dark they will not know what they are walking in or stumbling over when they fall.
But when we do have a little light in our lives we begin to see the world for what it is and we begin to see obstacles we can avoid. Avoiding them becomes common sense!
Not knowing that something is there will not make it disappear; we may not see it but it is still there and still a danger to us.
Don’t let the dark fool you into a false sense of security, rather switch on the light and see what is ahead.

John 12:35 Then Jesus said to them, “A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going.
When is the best time to look for a lost item at night time; when the light is on or when the light is off?
It may seem a silly question to ask but we are living through this type of thing every day because Christ is trying to shine His light into our lives and we continue to switch it off!
Opening the door and letting the light in is the first step. Keeping that light in the room is the next logical step to take.
Using the light to do things is what makes the real difference in our lives!

1 John 1:5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.
Jesus came to shed light in this dark world. We continue to close doors and hide in corners so the light will not expose us!
Accepting the light and allowing it to cleanse us may be a frightening step to take at first, but one which is well worth the risk!
There is not dark side to Christ so we need not fear He will do bad things to us. He wants to get rid of the dark and shower us with His light once and for all.
Heaven will be filled with His glorious light; take a taste of heaven today with Christ in your life!

1 Timothy 6:16 who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honour and everlasting power. Amen.
We serve a God who is perfect. This means we cannot actually look Him in the eye unless we are perfect otherwise we would corrupt His perfection.
The most amazing thing is He has given us direct access to Him through Christ Jesus who did come to earth to live amongst us.
We serve a God who is perfect and through that perfection was able to come as a servant to mankind to give us eternal life.
God alone deserves all of our praise for all He has done and is continuing to do every second of every day!

Psalm 104:2 Who cover Yourself with light as with a garment, Who stretch out the heavens like a curtain.
I have not considered the light that Christ gives out as being like a garment before but rather as a light which show clear the path we walk.
Why do we wear clothes? Primarily to protect ourselves. God’s Word should be the protection we put on rather than clothes!
I’m not saying we should all strip off and walk down the road with just our Bibles however good it may seem; but taking God’s Word with you inside your heart will do more than clothes to strengthen and protect you in your walk!

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
One thing about walking in the dark with a light is that it will attract others, both other people and many insects!
When others see we are walking safely because we have the light they will want to join us in our walk so they can be safer as well.
Yes we may well get to have a whole lot of insects and other horrible things being attracted to us along the way, but it will be a whole lot safer than walking in the dark!
Allow Christ to guide you in safety.

Isaiah 2:5 O house of Jacob, come and let us walk in the light of the Lord.
Have you tried to walk through a forest in the dead of night without a bright moon to guide you? It is difficult walking in the dark and especially so when you do not know the path you walk along.
Things are so much easier if we have a torch to light our way or a light to aim for in the distance, but still things can be tricky.
The more we listen to Christ and His Word the more we are able to know the path we are walking and the easier things will be.
Get to know Christ more and more each day so your path will be light up and clear to walk. That is how He wants it to be!

Jeremiah 6:16 Thus says the Lord: “Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
What is the general reaction from people when you try to tell them about God? Do you get ridiculed or told that you are wasting your time? I do, but it does not stop me!
Jeremiah was crying out to the people who should have known better through their own history; but he got much the same reaction.
Don’t be disillusioned by the people who reject God and want to walk their own paths all the time. They are following what they think is best because they do not know what is best.
Be strong and listen to God.

Matthew 11:29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Jesus does not want us to be burdened with all the horrible things in this world but would rather we carry the load He wishes us to carry.
If you were given the choice to either carry the shopping bag full of sugar, juice and other heavy things or the shopping bag full of crisps and other light things, which would you carry?
They both may have things we like in them, but the sugar bag is going to be very heavy compared to the crisps bag!
Jesus wants us to carry the good things, but also to make our way easier. We do need to listen to Him to find that way!

Genesis 42:6 Now Joseph was governor over the land; and it was he who sold to all the people of the land. And Joseph’s brothers came and bowed down before him with their faces to the earth.
When God says something is going to happen, you had better take notice because it is going to happen!
God had given Joseph the dream that all his brothers would bow down to him and this is when it happened. The brothers did not yet know this was Joseph, but they would have remembered God’s words when they did realise!
We may not see God’s hand in things in our lives, especially when we do not like what is happening; but when we do realise we can praise God even more to know His promises stand forever!
Lift up your praise to God even before you realise His hand is already in it.

Proverbs 19:6 Many entreat the favour of the nobility, And every man is a friend to one who gives gifts.
How easy it is to befriend someone who has the money or power to be able to give you things or make things happen for you; but befriending the poor or weak takes courage and work from you.
Jesus had no end of followers when He was performing miracles, but when He gave Himself up for us there were few who rallied around Him.
Looking at the outward appearance of man is easy, but seeking the real person inside can be difficult as you try to unpick the layers.
Love someone for who they really are, not what they seem to be!

Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity.
When you say you are a friend to someone, how deep do you mean that?
A friend should be someone who is willing to be there at all times, willing to be called in the middle of the night, willing to turn up when needed.
A brother is one who will be there when they see trouble approaching, one who will be there during the night and will support you when they see you may need it.
A brother exists to fulfil the role of comforter even when we do not ask. The Holy Spirit is our great comforter who is more than a brother!

Proverbs 24:17 Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, And do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles;
I know it is hard to not laugh when someone trips over or falls, but we are not talking about laughing in jest, but laughing in bitterness.
God sees the intention from the heart when we do things and not just the outward reaction as we do. Laughing at other people’s misfortune is not always good.
What is it like when other people stare at you or laugh at you when things go wrong? Think about the person and not what they stand for.
People may have the wrong idea about you until they get to know you – get to know others first…
