Exodus 23:32 Do not make a covenant with them or with their gods.

Have you ever promised someone something just to keep them quiet? Did you know you were promising something you would not carry through?

We live in times where people make all manner of promises and then discard them before they are fulfilled; and yet we still accept these promises from others!

God made promises to us and has carried out every single one of them so far – there are more yet to come but we have to be patient for the right time.

Don’t follow the crowd and make empty promises or empty deals with people you know you will not get round to – it makes your God look bad!

Nehemiah 9:1 On the twenty-fourth day of the same month, the Israelites gathered together, fasting and wearing sackcloth and putting dust on their heads.

What ever happened to a whole country coming together to say they were sorry before God?

I know it is a hard thing for just one person to come and say sorry to God, so getting a whole country to do so would be quite a task – but this is what happened many times throughout our history.

I know we are less bound by religious events nowadays, but this does not mean we should abandon good things.

Our bible teach us to not forget about coming together as a group of believers to show support for our God – we need more of it!

Joel 2:12 “Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.”

Have you even got into a relationship and wondered whether the other person has a clue what a real relationship should be about?

If we are serious about getting into a relationship, be it with another person or with God, then we have to be real about it and focus on how we can improve things and move forward all the time.

If we think it is all going to be easy and we don’t have to do anything (because we think they love us) then we are in for a shock! If we do not show love back in a relationship, it may well not last!

Be real. Be honest. Be open. Be fully in love!

Deuteronomy 4:29 But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.

We can read how God prevented people from crossing the Jordan river because of their actions against Him, but the underlying message was the same then as it is today.

We may be surrounded by sin and corruption, but the message remains the same.

If we are willing to turn our back on the sin and corruption and genuinely seek God with our whole hearts, then He is willing to be there for and with us!
