16 October: Luke 12:1-7
Key Verse: Luke 12:4
I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that can do nothing more.
Devotion:
One can read a verse like this and still not be encouraged... because there is a time when we do all fear death thinking it is the end. But the more we dig into God's Word, the more we begin to realise that it is not the end.
We see the death of our bodies as the ultimate end because we cannot see what lies beyond that. The more we listen to the people of the world the more we may be in fear of the death of our bodies...
God allowed Jesus to come and show it is not the end, merely a stage we must go through as we move from our physical life into our spiritual life. Even Jesus did not want people to touch him when he was still in his spiritual being.
But when we read how special we are to God and how Jesus came through the physical death to be resurrected and live a few more days with us until he went back to heaven. We can look forward to so much more - because of the love God has for us as human beings!
Points to ponder:
How much do you fear death?
Will you, with me, accept it as a stage our physical bodies must go through...
