Jeremiah 32:17 Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You.

When we get stressed we need to lay things down before The Lord before they get too far; easier said than done for many of us, but oh so true!

God is our creator who has made heaven and earth which means He set everything in motion and keeps it all together.

We should all be falling apart, but God keeps us together when we give things back to Him.

Don’t hold on until your world falls apart; give it to God so He can guide you.

Mark 10:27 But Jesus looked at them and said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.”

When Jesus reminded the disciples that it is impossible for us to get into heaven through anything we do He also gave them a way in!

No matter how many good acts we do, how much we give to the poor and needy, how much we achieve in life, nothing will open the gates of heaven for us. It is Christ alone that opens those gates for us.

I love doing things for God and for other people but I know none of that counts toward me going to heaven; it is only the fact that I believe in Christ and have personally asked Him to forgive me that counts!

Ask Christ into your life today. It counts!

Mark 14:36 And He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”

When Jesus was facing the awful realisation of what He was about to go through for us, He lifted up His own prayers to God to show just how distraught He was.

There is no use trying to hide how troubled we are to God because He sees us from the inside and not the outward appearance we give to everyone else.

But do not try to force God’s hand by telling Him what he should be doing; trust Him to guide you through the best path for you because He does know what is best!

Romans 8:15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

There will be times when we really do feel like we are trapped, encircled and have no way out; and sometimes God allows us to feel like that!

How can a loving and caring God allow that to happen to us? Well, when hardship comes into our lives we look more earnestly to God and our requests take on a new meaning.

God wants us to be earnest and meaningful in our prayers no matter how much we feel trapped or even on top of the world.

Make sure God is at the top of your list each and every day!

Psalm 55:22 Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

When we become weighed down with life on earth we need to look to God to give us the joy and peace He wants us to have.

Giving God control in our lives is a lot harder than you think when you have been taking care of yourself for a long time; so why not start with the heavy burdens.

Just like someone who loves you, God does not want to see you struggling under stress, anxiety and other worries.

God’s love for you means He cares deeply for you!

1 Peter 5:7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Depending on God can seem like a daunting thing when you first look at life because we are brought up in a very material world.

We do depend on food, water and even light to survive and we trust that we are able to work hard enough to supply for and cover those needs.

What Peter is writing here is that we give up the anxiety we face for the supply of such needs to God. God provides daily needs for all other creatures who blindly trust in the unseen.

God wants us to show faith by having a form of that blind and absolute trust in Him.

1 John 2:2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

John was a Jew and he learned from Christ that this atonement of sin was not just something to do with the Jews but to do with the whole world!

God created the whole world but worked with the Jews so that we would have our example to look to and learn from.

I sometimes count myself to be very lucky that I am a gentile and that I have come to learn about God through love and support and not through religion.

Exodus 24:7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people. And they said, “All that the Lord has said we will do, and be obedient.”

How many times have you said that you would do something but have not done it?

Not just the times you said you would just to get someone off your back, but the times you forgot or the time you could not or should not…

When God makes a promise to us, He keeps it and fulfils it. When we make a promise to Him, are we going to be as fervent to keep it as He is toward us?

Matthew 26:28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

When we remember that we live in a time of grace we must never forget what price was paid for us to receive that grace.

Christ willingly laid down His own life, allowed His own blood to be shed, allowed the people to crucify Him, just so that we would have our debt paid before we own it all.

Christ died before we committed the sins. Christ died because He knew we needed Him. Christ died because of His love for us.

Are we willing to remember what he has done and share that?

Isaiah 49:8 Thus says the Lord: “In an acceptable time I have heard You, and in the day of salvation I have helped You; I will preserve You and give You as a covenant to the people, to restore the earth, to cause them to inherit the desolate heritages;

God hears our cries; not when He wants to, but always. He may not answer in our own time because He knows when the time is right on not us.

God does remember the promises that he has made but makes sure that He fulfils those when the time is right so that he will get the glory and we will get the blessing.

God is not here to destroy mankind but to bring him back to His side through repentance.

God wants us to be His children and not to try and rule over Him!

2 Corinthians 6:1 We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain.

You may be asking “how can I receive a free gift in vain?” And the obvious answer would be that you cannot because it is a gift that is freely available to us.

I believe that people still do take the word of God, the Gospel, the Scriptures, our bibles, whatever you would call it, in vain. They read but don’t accept. They read but don’t believe it all.

God has given us His Word because it is the truth. We cannot presume to understand it all and need constant guidance from The Holy Spirit to show us what it means.

Continue receiving that guidance with grace.

Ephesians 4:7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.

It may seem hard to believe a statement like this after you have just had someone shout down your neck or turn round and say they hate you, but Christ has given each of us an amazing gift of grace.

It is not just the grace that Christ show us but the gift of grace that He has given to us. He has shown us grace beyond measure, beyond what we can imagine…

But He has also given us the ability to show others grace. That needs to come from deep inside of us where He has planted it and not a shallow gesture we think is good enough!

Ephesians 4:27 nor give place to the devil.

Don’t take it too personally, but you probably do give place to the devil! We all give in to temptations and we all do things that are not always the best things to do…

God’s grace goes beyond what we can do to work against Him and beyond our failings, so don’t get too worked up about failing or giving in!

Yes we do need to try and we should try as hard as we can, but we will still make mistakes and we will still fall and get hurt.

Reach out to ask God for a hand!

Colossians 3:9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds

Part of our human side is that we lie in various ways. It may not seem like a blatant lie to us but when we withhold the truth we are not telling the truth…

Leaving our human nature aside and moving forward with The Spirit is what God would like of us so that we can show others more of His nature.

God shows us grace and mercy every day by forgiving the many things we do wrong in our lives. Living with that forgiveness allows us to bask in God’s great love.

1 Corinthians 15:46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual.

Our physical bodies have to have life breathed into them to start us going. God created us so that when we are born the body starts into motion and does not stop until the physical body dies.

Our spiritual bodies have to grow as well, being given life through our accepting Christ into our lives.

We can use our physical bodies to gather spiritual food so that when we do die, our spiritual selves can take on the meaning of life for us and live with God.

We need to make sure our spiritual bodies are fed enough whilst we can because we will be living that spiritual life for a long time.

2 Corinthians 5:1 For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

We can marvel all we like at the complexity of our bodies and glorify God for all that He has created us to be, but if we just look at these earthly bodies then we are limiting our outlook!

We know we have a better place than just to live inside these earthly bodies because God shows us this and tells us this. Whether we look at this as the time we will have when we get to heaven or before that should not matter.

God gave us an eternal soul into which he wants to bring love, joy, peace and all the other fruits of The Spirit.

1 John 5:19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.

We do know deep inside that we have been created by God; but whether those thoughts come to the surface or not depends on how we spend our lives.

If we focus on the world and all the evil within, we will keep our eyes and hearts on all of that evil; when goodness starts to surface it will be drowned by that evil.

Satan is the master of cover because he will cover our good and righteous thoughts with all manner of evil so that we do not focus on those good and righteous things.

Unless we leave behind those evil things, we will never rise above them.

Genesis 8:21 And the Lord smelled a soothing aroma. Then the Lord said in His heart, “I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done.

This is one of these places in my bible where I marvel at the faith and trust of a human being toward God.

Noah may well have just witnessed the greatest destruction on earth, but now he was facing loss of everything if he were to burn all of his food.

His dependence would be totally on God from this point on because everything was destroyed and now he was sacrificing a whole lot of provision.

But he trusted God and glorified God. What do we do?

Amos 5:21 “I hate, I despise your feast days, and I do not savour your sacred assemblies.

I used to hate coming home and smelling tripe being cooked; to me it was a smell that turned my stomach and not one that encouraged me to eat!

Just as we really do hate some smells, God does not like what we bring to Him unless we are bringing it from our hearts.

If we do it just because that is what has been done before, we may as well offer tripe instead of a nice joint.

God would rather we gave less, but more quality and with more love and feeling than give bucket loads of rubbish!

Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

Children copy us. Don’t ever think that children don’t see what we do, hear what we say and take it all in. If there is one thing that I have learned as a youth leader is that children imitate!

God wants us to be more like children in that respect, picking up the righteous things He has shown us and copying them; not picking up what the world does but what He does.

Being imitators of the world will only get us into trouble and not into Christ’s arms. Be more of a sweet aroma and a sour stink to the people around you!
