Genesis 3:10 So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”

There are times when we run and hide because we are scared, frightened or worried that things will go wrong.

God does not want us to be scared of Him but rather to fear Him. So what’s the difference?

Fearing God means knowing that He is in absolute charge. That means that what He says goes!

Listen to God to find out what He really wants of you, and then DO IT!

Matthew 1:5 Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse,

Have you ever been surprised by meeting someone from you past out of the blue, or meeting someone born in the same place as you on the other side of the world?

We can look at things as being coincidences all we like, but when we get to look through who had to get together and where and when to make sure Christ was born we should stand in awe!

God continues to make sure so much does happen in our lives to encourage and protect us. Believe more in Him and less in the world today!

Hebrews 3:4 For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God.

We have some pretty amazing people in this world who can build some amazing things and yet none compare to the simple human body.

We can marvel at the accomplishments of men over the years and still we know that we have got a very long way before we can duplicate what God has done.

That does not seem to stop man from trying things; why can’t we just accept that God has created all things and trust Him with our futures?

Pride?

2 John 1:9 Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.

When people come to you with good ideas and plans of doing great things for God, make sure that they are bringing God’s teaching into their ideas as well.

When people come in and tell you that Jesus was just a man or just a prophet and not the Son of God, they are going against God, against God’s Word and are themselves heading for a fall.

We are warned about such people in many ways in our bibles, and yet we are also quick to jump at any chance of getting involved with something that sounds good.

Make sure biblical teaching is in the idea. Make sure God is in the idea.

1 Corinthians 3:9 For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building.

There is no way that God would let us just go out there and do His work without being there with us. When He calls us to do His Work He is calling us to work with Him.

The other side of that is that we should never go out to do God’s work alone; we should always make sure that we take Him with us.

So the best way of looking at this is to go forward to willingly take on God’s work and expect Him to be with you every step of the way.

God has given us what we need already, we have to start using it properly.

Mark 16:20 And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.

I love the way that the Gospel of Mark is ended with such a matter of fact statement that the Lord was with them after His death.

Christ did promise us that we would never be left alone to fend for ourselves but that He would be there and Mark confirms this here that the Lord was still working.

How do we know? Well, when we stop and look at how things are happening or how they have happened we will see that extraordinary things do happen.

They happen just when God needs them to.

Mark 16:19 So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.

After Jesus had told the disciples that they now had the privilege of being able to go out and teach others the Gospel story, God the Father received Jesus into heaven.

Not just into heaven, but to sit on the right hand of God the Father!

Christ has made it possible that we will be able to be in heaven one day too, and he has done this because of His great love toward us. He wants us to know that we have a task to do first of all.

On completion of His task, He ascended back into heaven. When our job is done we too can be with God because Christ made that possible!

Mark 16:6 But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him.

Today is the day we celebrate Christ being raised from the dead to defeat our sin debt once and for all! Hallelujah!

I don’t see how anyone would not have been alarmed to see that someone had been brought back to life – but this is the power of God, without limit.

It is not that He had to wait for anything other than showing us He keeps His promises, no matter how long we have to wait.

Don’t doubt God’s promises! Don’t be surprised to see them come true!

John 19:42 So there they laid Jesus, because of the Jews’ Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby.

We are told that Jesus body was hurriedly laid in the tomb before the feast day because it was not lawful to work on the feast day, besides the tomb was new and unused.

What we are not told is what the disciples actually did on the next day. Besides it being a solemn day when things were remembered and contemplated upon, we don’t really know that much.

But if we relate that day to one where a very dear person died in our lives, we can begin to think what they may have been going through.

But not for long!

John 19:5 Then Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate said to them, “Behold the Man!”

I love the way that Pilate gave the people one more chance at making the right choice; just as God gives us chances to change our minds.

Pilate declared Jesus as a man to get them to take pity after He was beaten and scourged just as any other man (yet more so).

The crowd went on to choose a criminal instead of Christ. Christ did not fight that decision but accepted it as the final choice.

What choice will you make about Christ in your own life?

1 Timothy 1:17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honour and glory forever and ever. Amen.

We like to think we know enough to get by. We like to think we continue learning all the time. We like to think we do what is right.

God is the one who created us and has all power, knowledge and wisdom; He alone is worthy of being praised for everything He does.

We need constant guidance to filter out the world and focus on God’s ways so that we can get closer to making the right choices.

Give God all glory for all He does show us; we need to try to listen to Him more often.

Jude 1:25 To God our Saviour, who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen.

No matter how much we try to get done ourselves, we will always seem to fall short of the mark; we will always have faults and always falter.

But our God is not limited in any of the ways that we are; He alone is all powerful and all-knowing and without limits.

It is only right then that we lift up His name alone in glory. Christ alone has died for our sins and nobody else can take away that debt we owe.

In Christ alone we stand.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

And sometimes, just sometimes, you get things right! It may seem like that at times but we make good choices all the time in our lives and we need to recognise that fact!

We can take great encouragement from good choices and from results that turn out well; so let us focus on those things and those times to enlighten our lives.

Our God has shown us just how much He loves us and He continues to want us to be blessed by the things He does in our lives. If we do not count those blessings we will never be pleased!

1 Corinthians 10:23 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify.

Even though the law may say that we are allowed to do things, it is not always right that we do so because what we do may still bring offense to others.

Sitting in a room full of vegetarians eating a beef burger may well upset the whole room even though God allows us to each meat.

Being part of a community or society means we must also be thinking about other people and not just ourselves.

God created this world for us to live together in.

1 Corinthians 10:22 Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?

Though we can try to cover all bases by saying that we trust this god and that god we will never be able to count on them all!

There is only one God and that is God the Father who sent His Son Jesus Christ to come and die on the cross for us.

We may be strong. We may be part of the strongest country in the world. But in comparison to God, we are nothing.

Let us remember that so we can live for Him and not provoke Him daily.

John 6:47 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.

Jesus did not hide the fact that people should believe on Him as being the Son of God; but many people did not want to hear that so ignored it.

When we get to tell people about Christ we are going to face some who will simply ignore us, some who will revolt against what we say and only some who believe us.

Is this anything we are doing wrong? Probably not. It is very likely that people will be rejecting the truth because it is difficult for them to accept it.

Try not to grow weary of people ignoring you or the bible.

John 3:15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

When we look up to Christ, just as the people of Israel had to look up at the serpent in the desert, we too have the gift of life that Christ has promised.

Jesus came into the world to save us and not to defeat us; He came to have final victory over Satan and his empty lies.

We need to lift up our gaze from the world and the worries therein and look faithfully up at Christ and His ways to receive His gift of eternal life.

Numbers 21:8 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.”

Sometimes we have to use unusual ways to get through to people and this was one of those ways where God used a way that seemed odd.

Where do you think the snakes were? They were almost certainly on the ground. Where did people have to look? Up in the air.

God was teaching them to trust Him and not the world; look up at what God has promised and don’t look down at the world.

Just as Peter was OK walking on the water until he looked down at the world. Look up and live!

Numbers 16:30 But if the Lord creates a new thing, and the earth opens its mouth and swallows them up with all that belongs to them, and they go down alive into the pit, then you will understand that these men have rejected the Lord.

The Old Testament has some pretty horrifying things happen to people who provoked God, and yet we choose to ignore so much of what has happened!

I know we are living in a time of grace where Christ has already paid the price for our sins, but that will not stop the inevitable happening if we choose to continue ignoring Christ.

We have a wonderful Saviour but we also have a just God who cannot abide “un-repented” sin!

Hebrews 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

Don’t try to limit God by what you understand or by what you can see and prove.

Man has always tried to prove things through what he can understand, see, feel, touch, and smell or whatever; the problem being that we cannot see everything.

The more we find out about the universe, the more we see how much more there is to it. God’s creation goes far beyond what we can understand.

Have faith in your God. Allow your faith to grow beyond your vision. Allow God to guide you instead of you trying to show Him the way!
