1 Kings 11:8 He did the same for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and offered sacrifices to their gods.

What do you think is the most likely thing which will take you away from worshipping God? For me it would probably be the same as Solomon, being in a relationship with someone who was not a Christian!

Solomon had many wives and some of those during his later life were women from other places, foreigners, who believed in their own gods.

Falling into line with the one person who seems to mean a lot to you at that time is not so wise when it takes you away from God.

Always try and make sure God is in the relationship with you!

Judges 10:6 Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord. They served the Baals and the Ashtoreths, and the gods of Aram, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites and the gods of the Philistines. And because the Israelites forsook the Lord and no longer served him

We can look back at the people of Israel and blame them for not following God and running after the gods of the people around them, but we do the same!

We may not be running after the Baals and the Ashtoreths of that time, but we do run after the ones of our own time!

What am I talking about? Anything which takes us away from God and drives a wedge between us and God almighty!

Don’t give in to the temptations because that is exactly what they are – nothing more than temptations!

Psalm 78:58 They angered him with their high places; they aroused his jealousy with their idols.

And yet, even through all of this as God looked after His people and protected them, they felt the need to complain about their lot!

We do like to think we should get more than we deserve, or we deserve more than we get – but God is the one who knows exactly what we need.

If He gave us what we deserve, we would be in deep trouble! Instead He continues to look after us; but He does get jealous when we run after other things instead of Him!

Psalm 78:52 But he brought his people out like a flock; He led them like sheep through the wilderness.

The preceding verses tell of all the plagues God sent on the Egyptians and through this all, God looked after the Israelites like they were His own flock of sheep.

The years that followed were done so with God keeping the whole of His people safe, not just the ones who did not complain, everyone.

He stopped them from being split up and getting lost. He provided their food every single day. He loved them as He loves His own.

We are His own!
