Hebrews 8:2 a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man.

In this letter to the Hebrew people, the author reminds them we serve a risen Saviour who was chosen by God to be our ultimate minister.

We have vicars, pastors, priests and many other leaders in our churches, all hopefully chosen by God, but none can compare to our Lord Jesus Christ.

We have a hand in choosing all our church leaders, but God alone chose Jesus Christ to be here with us.

He came from heaven to earth to serve us at a time when we needed Him most of all.

Isaiah 66:2 For all those things My hand has made, And all those things exist,” Says the Lord. “But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, And who trembles at My word.

God is our Creator. All things exist because He made them so. There is nothing we can see which God has not had a hand in making!

What or who did God lift up and glorify? His one and only Son, Jesus Christ!

If we are willing to accept these truths and follow Christ in His humble ways toward God, then we can expect God to look favourably upon us; not because we are anything like Christ, but because Christ is putting us forward to God!

Isaiah 42:3 A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench; He will bring forth justice for truth.

When the prophet continues on to talk of Christ the greatness of our God continues to expand and show us yet another facet of our awesome God.

Christ came to save the world and build the church, not to condemn it and break it.

Just as the wick of a candle continues to burn and shed so much more light than just a piece of string, so too Christ sheds so much more light when supported by the church.

It is not for us to judge the church and others, but to show them the light Christ is spreading!

Isaiah 40:11 He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, And carry them in His bosom, And gently lead those who are with young.

I find each of the descriptions of God and His ways in the Old Testament truly inspiring. Here the prophet is telling of the greatness of God.

Just like a shepherd will do all they can to keep their sheep safe, so too will our awesome God do everything to keep us safe.

Sometimes when things go wrong it is us who have wandered off into the wilderness and not God letting us down. Other times it is the choices of others which seem to break our own little worlds.
