Colossians 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

The most amazing thing about the birth of Christ was the impossibility of what was happening. God has always existed, and yet Jesus was born so that He could die.

God created everything, and yet Jesus was fully human as a created body; mind-blowing for us to try and figure out!

We may struggle with the birth of Christ but what we must never do is refuse to accept that this is what God chose to do because He loved us first of all!

Hebrews 1:6 And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, ‘Let all God’s angels worship him.’

When Christ was born it was not just Joseph and Mary who were happy; a host of angels sung about the birth, praising God!

This was no ordinary birth even though the parents who would look after Him and bring Him up were ordinary folk. Jesus was going to make a huge impact on everyone He met!

What sort of impact do you think you are making on people?

As we come up to Christmas think how you can make an impact on someone else’s life.

Matthew 1:23 ‘The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel’ (which means ‘God with us’).

Right from the beginning God had been telling man that a Saviour would come to us and release us from our debt we owe because of our sinful nature.

Now an angel was declaring that the time had come and would soon be upon them and the events were going to be anything but ordinary!

God was finally going to be with the people… but the people would not understand it. But that did not stop God from coming because He knew the penny would finally drop one day!

Luke 2:1 And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.

If there is one thing we can be sure of is that man will always want his pound of flesh! Just as in the days of old, we too have to pay into governments so that they can work.

That does not mean that the government is doing the right thing; we could argue that many governments are corrupt and following evil paths nowadays; but we are still subject to them.

Caesar order the census to make sure that everyone was registered to account for taxes due. This had nothing to do with worshipping God, but God was using it for His glory!
