Psalm 41:2 The Lord will preserve him and keep him alive, And he will be blessed on the earth;
What happens when you live your life for God? What happens when you really do listen to Him and change your outlook on life?
Well, these words may well have been written a very long time before Jesus came to serve people on earth, but they show what can and will happen!
Jesus was blessed on earth as He continued to serve His (and our) heavenly Father!
God wants to be able to support and bless us in everything we do – we need to do everything we do with God in mind.

Psalm 41:1 Blessed is he who considers the poor; The Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.
How would you class yourself? Do you think you always look out for other people? Do you think you mostly look out for others or do you just go about your own things?
Jesus came to this world, not to lift Himself up but to lift up the people who need it most!
We need to take a long look at the way Christ worked with the people He did and start applying that way of working into our lives.
Live like Jesus lived; for others!

John 6:70 Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?”
Throughout our bibles, and indeed throughout time we can see how the evil one has got in on everything he can in our lives.
Jesus was faced up directly by the evil one, but He also saw him at work when he picked the disciples.
We are warned about how adept the devil is at getting in on our lives, but I don’t think we always take it too seriously.
We should! Christ was crucified and died on the cross because of the seriousness of this evil being!

Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them.
The book of Job is thought to be the oldest of the scriptures found written down and this story should raise a few eyebrows.
Satan is here amongst the gathering of our Lord and various sons of God; he wanted to be there to cause trouble – just as he always does!
Satan was not there to try and see how good Job was but to try and destroy his faith in God.
The evil one will do anything he can to try and get you to doubt God or to blame Him for things; don’t go there…

1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
When the apostle says to be sober and vigilant, they cannot realistically be done without each other; trying to be vigilant if one is not sober in mind and spirit would be a lost cause.
We have a very real threat, the evil one, who is always out to try and trip us up at every opportunity; just to try and prevent us from being close to God!
When we hear a sound which frightens us, that feeling runs deep inside and not just on the exterior – the devil is out to frighten us as much as possible.
Trust in Christ and depend on Him as your protector at all times.

1 Peter 1:13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
Have you ever tried to wade through a deep puddle wrapped up in lots of clothes? It is very hard work when the clothes get wet. The best way is to lift the clothes away from the water to make it easier!
Here we are being told to do the same with our minds – not to allow our minds to be dragged down by the mire we are trying to wade through.
Allow Christ to guide you through this world by trusting in Him and listening to Him. Don’t be dragged down by the world around you.
Our bibles are here to light the way and make it easier – use them!

Romans 15:4 For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.
God did not have the bible written to try and trip us up. He did not have it written so He could show us up. He had this all transcribed so we could learn.
What we do not know, we can learn. Where we do not have hope, we can learn of hope. Where we grow weary, we can gain strength.
Don’t treat your bible like a rule book that has to be obeyed but rather as a source of all the things you need to know about God so you can be closer to Him.
Think of it in a positive light and not a negative light – that will change your life!

Matthew 22:29 Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.
When Jesus was surrounded by the Sadducees and others trying to quiz Him on scriptural knowledge, Jesus’ reply was quite simple: “You don’t actually know enough!”
The more I read the bible the more I get to learn. The more I study it, the more I see there is to study and understand about God.
Don’t ever think you will get to the stage where you can tell God what He should have done – He is perfect, not you!

2 Timothy 3:13 But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.
As we get closer to the end of times we are warned about how things will seem to get worse for us on earth; not just wars, earthquakes and the such, but people will grow more evil.
The more we see the people around us in various positions of power, the more we will see corruption and deceit as people strive to lift themselves up instead of God.
Pride and greed take over and evil walks straight in the door and takes a hold of that life!
Don’t be deceived by kind words if they are not backing up those words with kind deeds…

2 Timothy 3:17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
God has made sure we have a wonderful resource in our hands, our bibles; the words of which were inspired by Him for our good.
Jesus came to earth not to show us all up but to fulfil the prophecies and show us we can fully depend on Him.
As long as we depend on Him through this resource He has given to us, we have hope of doing His good work.

Colossians 2:3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Whether this refers to the gospel or to Christ Himself, we have all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge to hand – we just need to ask.
How do we ask? In prayers to God through Christ or by picking up our bibles and reading the gospel story!
When Christ promised us He would be here for all our needs, it was a promised He had already started in motion; we just did not know it yet.

Proverbs 1:20 Wisdom calls aloud outside; She raises her voice in the open squares.
Have you noticed how it is easier to spot something good and wise than to spot something sinister?
But what if you are solely focussed on looking for the sinister? Not much chance of getting to see the wisdom around you then…
God continues to show us the way, but we have to be willing to look for His will and His ways in our lives.
Look and listen for Christ’s ways and learn about Him openly.

Luke 18:12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’
Boasting about your fasting is just wrong on so many levels! We should fast in order to show Christ we mean what we say, not to show others we do.
It should not be taken as a prideful time because man cannot live without food!
God told man in the very beginning what he should be willing to sacrifice and further taught us to willingly give for the upkeep of the church.
Boasting about how much you can give is nothing more than boasting of your earthly riches.

Luke 18:11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.
How often do you compare yourself to others in the church? How often do you think you are above others just because you do things in church?
To be fair, I have been there and done that; fortunately, I was able to read these verses and see through what I was doing.
God constantly tries to remind us to be more like Jesus in being a servant to others as He was to us.
Do God’s bidding because you love Him and not because it makes you look good in some way!

Isaiah 58:3 ‘Why have we fasted,’ they say, ‘and You have not seen? Why have we afflicted our souls, and You take no notice?’
When was the last time you fasted? How many people did you tell? What sort of reaction did you get?
Fasting is not about how many people know you are doing it. It is not about how other people see you during the act.
Fasting is between you and God; you showing God you are willing to give something up in order for Him to take you seriously.
Don’t broadcast your fasting but rather make sure you are serious with God during your fasting.

Exodus 23:12 Six days you shall do your work, and on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female servant and the stranger may be refreshed.
Have you ever thought about how many people are affected by the work you do? I don’t mean in a positive way through you working for them or earning for them but how others have to work just because you want to work.
We all want public transport to be up and running, even on our days off! We all want shops to be open just in case we forgot something…
Our lives directly and indirectly affect many more people. How about thinking about giving them a rest on the Sabbath?

Nehemiah 13:17 Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said to them, “What evil thing is this that you do, by which you profane the Sabbath day?
When the people from Tyre brought all manner of foods to the people of Judah and Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, Nehemiah went to the local leaders not to Tyre.
The local people had the choice of whether they bought from the traders on the Sabbath or whether they abstained and kept the Sabbath holy.
We do have a choice as to when and what we do to glorify God. It is our choice. God is going to look to us to find out what we are doing, not to all the tempters around us.

Ezekiel 20:20 hallow My Sabbaths, and they will be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am the Lord your God.
It is hard to follow Christ and God’s teaching by keeping our day of worship holy when we have so many distractions and things happening on Sundays!
So many markets, sports and shops have special events on Sundays taking people away from worshipping God.
We do need to set aside time for God and to keep to that time every week. Show God just how important He is in your life by setting aside time for Him alone!
Show Him how much you love Him!

Exodus 31:17 It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.
God is great at setting up things which remind us of other things; our minds are fickle and go off on tangents whenever they can (or so it seems.)
God wants us to not just remember Him when the going gets tough but to remember Him always. To do that we need to keep Him in our minds and hearts.
You will find it easier to remember things if you have reminders – allow God to show you what to do to remember His Word and His ways throughout all of your life.

Psalm 104:31 May the glory of the Lord endure forever; May the Lord rejoice in His works.
God has done so many things which we marvel at; have a look at just a few of the natural wonders of this world, then look out into the expanse of the universe!
Now look into the people around you, look at the ways which we act and interact – think of how wonderful a place this could be if we acted like God wanted us to!
God has given us everything we need – are we going to use those things the way they are intended?
