Exodus 19:18 Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.
When God descended on Mount Sinai, He did so in a manner which not only shook the people but shook the mountain as well. God wanted their attention!
When God wants your attention, He will start by trying to get it gently but may well move on from that when you do not listen!
Are you still waiting with the crowd for God to shake your tree or shake your world?
Be careful you are not shaken out of your tree!

Hebrews 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire.
We have a multitude of examples in our Bibles showing us God has ultimate power over life and death.
We have many examples of how God dealt with people who refused to believe in Him or took other gods instead of Him.
This is why God is described as being a consuming fire – fire burns everything down to nothing…
Don’t give in to the world which is going to be reduced to absolutely nothing but rather hold firm to God who is in control!

Psalm 2:12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.
Written many years before Christ came to earth, this psalm gives us instruction to love Christ just as we love God because He is the Son of God.
Think about it; if God, who is omni-potent were to get just a little angry – how much damage could He do in our lives?
It is lucky for us He extends His grace far beyond the normal limits to show us His great love and we can therefor bask in that love by trusting in Him totally!

Ephesians 1:12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.
Why would God try to get things through to you? Why would He try and get you to do His will in your life?
So that when you trust in Him and see what He is capable of, you will go out and tell others of His glory and His wonders!
God wants you to be a good example for Him. God wants you to be an example of what can happen to people who believe and trust in Him.
Not for your glory, but to give Him the glory He deserves!

Ephesians 1:9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself,
God is in control. He has purpose in everything He does. He continues to try and get us to see this and follow His will!
Have you ever wondered how God manages to get things through to you even when you least expect it?
God is willing and able to use everything and everyone around us to get His will through to us.
Are you listening to everything and comparing it with God’s Word to see if it does come from Him?

Hebrews 2:4 God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?
What makes us so sure we can believe certain things in our lives or in God’s Word? The biggest thing for me is how God has talked about certain things as being the truth.
God tells us angels are real and do things for us – believe it!
Jesus told us the prophets are real and have spread His Holy Word over many years – believe it!
The Holy Spirit tells us many more things are real and the truth – believe it!

1 John 5:9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son.
We listen to and believe in what people say every day; we even go and tell others the things we have heard in the belief they are true.
But we know people can lie. We know we do as well. Yet we still choose to believe.
God does not lie. What He says is always the truth whether He has said is yesterday or a few thousand years ago; it is the truth.
Share God’s Word. Share the truth!

1 John 4:14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Saviour of the world.
Even though we have not seen God at any time, we have probably seen enough in this world to convince us of God and certainly know His love for us.
As long as we continue in that love and with God’s love, not just toward Him but to all people around us, then we continue obeying His will.
Knowing this love gives us a task to do in our lives – to tell people about it and share it more. Only then will more come to learn of this great love.

1 Corinthians 2:1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God.
You are not the only one… We can look though the bible and find references of how little people thought of themselves, but
God was still willing and able to use them!
Do not be discouraged thinking you do not know enough of the bible either, because God uses what He has in His hands.
Just be willing. Willing to listen to God. Willing to obey God. He is willing to use you!

Exodus 4:10 Then Moses said to the Lord, “O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.”
When you are asked to go and do something, what is your answer?
Does it depend on what you are being asked to do or even on who is doing the asking?
Admit it, we do like to make excuses so we don’t have to do things; especially when it is to confront other people in any way.
Trust God to give you the right voice, the right words or even the right person standing next to you so your voice can be heard to support His Word!

Isaiah 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
What would you say to God if He called you to be His servant to people who did not seem to want to know anything about God at all?
Would you be willing to change your lifestyle altogether just so other people could hear about God? Would you be willing to possibly give up your creature comforts to serve God?
We may all say “Yes” at first, but actually stepping forward and doing what God says is the hard part which some fail to follow through on.

Acts 28:26 saying, ‘Go to this people and say: “Hearing you will hear, and shall not understand; And seeing you will see, and not perceive;
Paul, throughout his ministry, continued to use the scriptures to support what he said. What we now call the Old Testament is full of prophecies about Jesus, the Jews and even us.
It seems fitting to end this small study on Acts by using what Paul used to support what has been said.
People will hear the gospel and not believe. People will see miracles and not believe.
Don’t give up telling the gospel just because of that; continue telling it because of the people who will believe and get to know Christ themselves.

Acts 27:38 But the centurion, wanting to save Paul, kept them from their purpose, and commanded that those who could swim should jump overboard first and get to land,
They were now shipwrecked, just as Paul had said would happen. The soldiers were ready to just leave the prisoners bound up to die, but the centurion had other ideas.
All he had heard from Paul was the truth. He was now thinking of what Paul had said and counted on it being the truth!
Please speak the truth to those around you. Please listen to God and hear the truth. Please spread the truth. Imagine what it would be like to know people talked the truth once more!

Acts 27:35 And when he had said these things, he took bread and gave thanks to God in the presence of them all; and when he had broken it he began to eat.
No matter how hard life is or how hard it seems to get, we must always remember God and all He is doing for us.
We may think it is the end of the world because our circumstances are so bad in our eyes, but God is still in control.
Listening to Him and listening for Him is paramount in our lives.
Trust God with every step in your life. Remember He is always with you. Listen to His will. And Obey!

Acts 27:19 On the third day we threw the ship’s tackle overboard with our own hands.
Have you ever been caught on a boat or ship during a storm? Being in a storm for a few hours is one thing, but being stuck in it for 3 days would be terrible!
God was not going to allow a simple storm to end Paul’s life; God was using the storm to rescue Paul.
We may not recognise things happening in our lives as being help from God. Instead of fighting everything, listen intently to God and follow His instructions.

Acts 26:24 Now as he thus made his defence, Festus said with a loud voice, “Paul, you are beside yourself! Much learning is driving you mad!”
Do not be surprised when people turn round to you and say you are mad because you believe in Christ; it is a response we will all face at some time or another.
When people are struggling to believe in something they go on the offensive rather than staying and trying to learn – it’s human nature.
Continue opening up the gospel slowly but surely and allow Christ to work in their hearts.
We need to sow the seeds and continue watering them; Christ will get the seeds to germinate and grow!

Acts 25:22 Then Agrippa said to Festus, “I also would like to hear the man myself.” “Tomorrow,” he said, “you shall hear him.”
I find it amazing how Paul was able to give the gospel to people in higher and higher places in the Romans society; from centurions to governors, the king and later in Rome as well.
God will use people who are willing to be used; but in doing so we need to be willing to listen to God and continue spreading the Good News.
Paul never gave up obeying God and so was used continually even though he was supposedly in captivity under house arrest.
God will open door as long as we are willing to walk through them!

Acts 24:25 Now as he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and answered, “Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you.”
What reactions do you get from the people you try to share the gospel with? Do you always get people who turn to Christ without question? I don’t!
When we give people the Good News of Christ, more often than not they will reject Him in some way because it is new and means they have to make a choice.
Felix was probably very used to having his own way as governor and even bossing people around; Paul was telling him how he should answer to God!
Allow Christ to change people’s hearts – continue giving them the Good News.

Acts 24:16 This being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men.
When I read through these few chapters of Acts I find myself getting angry that people get angry when we try to speak the truth!
God, through Christ, has given us a command to go out and tell people of the truth He has given us; yet He also wants us to do so diligently.
What use is it if we incite violence and hatred everywhere we go when we are trying to teach people about God’s love?

Acts 22:25 And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said to the centurion who stood by, “Is it lawful for you to scourge a man who is a Roman, and uncondemned?”
Paul was a Jew and a Roman by birth. The crowd treated him like a Jew and the Romans now had to treat him like a Roman.
Did any of this matter to God? No! God used these facts to save Paul’s life and put him in a position where he could be used most effectively.
God can and does use anyone to reach out to everyone; stop fighting Him and allow Him to use you to the fullest!
