Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
If you enjoy watching films and programs about the wildlife and wonders of this world, then you may begin to relate to the sight Adam and Eve must have seen.
We do not know just how amazing a sight the evil one may have been, but his cunning was far beyond our imaginations.
God has warned us against the evil one but it will only be after we have been conned and tempted that we will see just how cunning he is.
Stay on your guard every day by walking close to God every day!

Psalm 104:25 This great and wide sea, In which are innumerable teeming things, Living things both small and great.
We have only just begun to find out about all the life which lives in our oceans; scientists find something new just about every day.
We have found things which live in the oceans beyond the beauty we have thought possible and we have found dangerous creatures beyond our nightmares.
We live in a world where we are surrounded by many different people, some more beautiful than we could imagine and others more sinister than we have though possible.
God wants us to continue fishing in our world just as fishermen fish in the same ocean which has beauty and monsters.

Ezekiel 47:10 It shall be that fishermen will stand by it from En Gedi to En Eglaim; they will be places for spreading their nets. Their fish will be of the same kinds as the fish of the Great Sea, exceedingly many.
Ezekiel foretold of the fishers of men many years before Christ walked on the earth inviting the disciples to become those fishers of men!
We may not understand the old language fully but when we begin to realise how much the prophets told the Jews we may struggle to see how they could not see it.
Don’t forget we have the knowledge about Jesus coming to earth and many of the things He did are written down for us; they were still learning!
Just like a new is used to catch many different fish, we too can use the Bible to give the gospel to many different people.

Mark 1:17 Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”
How good were Simon and Andrew at fishing? Well they must have had some success because they were known as fishermen!
They must have thought themselves to be good enough to make a living from the fishing as well.
What made them stop and follow Christ? It was what Jesus was saying. It was the gospel.
Don’t take my word for it; stop and read the first chapter of Mark and see what Jesus was doing; it may just open your eyes too!

Mark 2:14 As He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he arose and followed Him.
Can you imagine the authority of Jesus’ voice and demeanour which made each of the disciples stop what they were doing and follow Him?
I have not met many preachers or teachers who have authority to make me stop whatever I am doing and listen; my mind is far too active and races off thinking about too many things!
I can imagine a tax collector having a very logical and calculating mind; yet he too stopped what he was doing to follow Jesus.
Stop what you are doing and give the next five minutes to Christ!

Matthew 26:40 Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour?
I wonder if you have ever been in a position where you have thought the people around you are just not supporting you like you think they should.
Jesus was in a position where He knew exactly what was going to happen very soon and He wanted to pray. Not just that but He wanted a bit of support whilst praying.
If someone needs prayers then step forward and give them the support they need; they may not know just how much they need the support until it is there!

1 Peter 4:7 But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.
Some of the disciples seemed to think they were living in the end times – or did they?
Jesus taught them they need to be ever ready and watchful because they have no idea when He is going to return. They were obeying His word!
If we are going to say Christ cannot return yet because of this and because of that then we are fooling ourselves.
Lift up your prayers as if they may be your last prayers. Lift up your worship like it is your last worship. Live your life because it is your last life!

Matthew 24:42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.
Just as we need to watch out for the evil people and things in this world, we also have to watch out for the promises God has made to us.
He has promised Christ will return some day and we have to be sure we are in a fit state for that to happen.
Jesus was always looking out for other people and always in communion with God; we need to take a leaf from His book and apply that in our lives.

1 Thessalonians 5:6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
I know I have missed out on getting some of the devotionals out on time recently; not just because of technical hitches but because I have been too tied up in others things!
Just because we are Christians does not mean we are going to get everything right all of the time.
Just because we have Christ’s protection does not mean we will accept it and be protected all the time.
Being vigilant is part of our Christian walk and we should not step away from the mark!

Proverbs 5:13 I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, Nor inclined my ear to those who instructed me!
How many people have told you something about God? How many of those people have been people in some sort of position of authority in the church?
It is not always the people in charge or the people who have got all the qualifications who can teach us about God and the Gospel.
God uses many people in our lives to reach us and to teach us. Trusting them can be difficult unless you are willing to spend a little time thinking about what people tell you.
Take what is said and compare it with what Christ has had written down for us – compare it with the bible.

Matthew 9:33 And when the demon was cast out, the mute spoke. And the multitudes marvelled, saying, “It was never seen like this in Israel!”
I wonder what the people in Israel must have thought when they saw what Jesus was capable of doing?
Would they have looked at the miracles and wondered how anyone could have done even more than their God of the past, or would they have tried to equate them to the past?
We do often try to measure things by what has happened in the past so we can get more out of things; but sometimes it is just good to stop and trust God.
God still does wonders in our lives.

Luke 7:9 When Jesus heard these things, He marvelled at him, and turned around and said to the crowd that followed Him, “I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!”
Have you ever heard someone say something which has made you marvel at their faith or their belief in something?
I do love to hear testimonies from other people where they get to share something from their lives that God has done for them.
When we get to hear the experiences from other people we get to trust more in what has happened in our lives and get to understand a bit more about how God can work in our lives.
God is still performing miracles in this world; far too often we choose to ignore them!

John 1:50 Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.”
I can imagine how Nathanael must have felt when Jesus told him he was sitting under a fig tree before Philip called him.
What would you say to someone who knew exactly where you were before they met you? I can imagine Nathanael finding a quiet spot to do his prayers or to have a quiet moment with God; and then being told by this person that is exactly where he was!
God knows us, all about us, yet He does not force us to do things; instead He waits patiently for us to make the right decisions in our lives!

Ephesians 4:15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—
Our aim, according to the Apostles writing to the people of the church of Ephesus, is to make sure we try to live righteously to be imitators of the head of our Church (Jesus Christ.)
Christ continued to make an impression upon the disciples which would last long after He died and rose again.
We need to take a leaf out of their books and do likewise, following God’s will in our lives to become more like disciples and even teachers of our own disciples.
But never forget that Jesus Christ is the head of our church and the one we should be glorifying; not ourselves!

Ephesians 2:21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord,
One thing which struck me when I read this today was the idea we are a church built together for the Holy Spirit to indwell.
I have always thought we are not big enough for the Spirit to come and take up residence within our hearts; but as a church we are a whole lot bigger!
God has purpose and the Spirit has purpose; He does not need us but wants us to help spread the Gospel.
Be purposeful in your life and sow the seeds as far as you can!

1 Peter 2:5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
Imagine what it would be like to have living building blocks! I love building things with LEGO (T) and enjoy the new themes they come out with.
But to be able to have something build itself because it is living would just be awesome.
God has created us as living blocks, living stones where we are able to build things ourselves, our spiritual souls are building blocks.
Enjoy living with God as He guides you toward a better and more beautiful future with Him.

Philippians 4:18 Indeed I have all and abound. I am full, having received from Epaphroditus the things sent from you, a sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God.
It is not just what we should be doing for God and our attitude toward what we can do for Him; it is what and how we do things for others too.
Loving others does not just mean buying them presents or giving them a surprise, it is all about supporting them all the time.
God continues to do so much for us all the time; take a page from His book and apply it into your own life, making others happy!

2 Corinthians 8:12 For if there is first a willing mind, it is accepted according to what one has, and not according to what he does not have.
When you have a job to do, how do you go about it? What sort of attitude do you have during that work?
When you want to give something back to God, how do you go about giving it back? What sort of attitude do you have during that act?
If you want to be able to please someone you should do your best to please them and not just enough to get through.
Do your best and be your best!

John 20:4 So they both ran together, and the other disciple outran Peter and came to the tomb first.
When the disciples ran to the tomb they ran as fast as they could, John out-running Simon-Peter because he was younger and fitter.
When you get to hear something about Jesus, what do you do and how quickly do you react?
We should be running round like John, fastest and quickest to give our best for Christ.
But John did not go into the tomb, stopping outside and waiting for Simon-Peter to catch up and go in first…
Be first. Be bold and run the race to completion!

1 Corinthians 9:24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.
What happens in the Olympic games? Do all the runners jog slowly round and cross the line together in harmony?
Certainly not; this is an all-out battle to see who can physically run the fastest, jump the highest and all manner of other sports! Only one person or one team get the gold medal!
We are reminded here we are in a race and we need to do our best to be as good as we can in this race.
Show your love for Christ by being the best you can be all of the time.
