Hebrews 10:5 Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, But a body You have prepared for Me.
These were words being attributed to David; words which were said to raise awareness of what was yet to come.
During David’s time it was quite proper to obey the laws and to make sure others did so too.
I think God was getting a bit weary with the whole sacrifice thing because He knew what was ahead and how much of a difference it would make.

Psalm 40:6 Sacrifice and offering You did not desire; My ears You have opened. Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require.
These are the very things ordered by God for people to have a way of atoning for their sins.
When performed correctly and with a willing heart, God was willing to accept them instead of their own lives; our God is merciful!
God was more willing to accept love over any of the other sacrifices.
Once God made a way forward none of this was going to have to be in place any more!

2 Corinthians 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
It may be difficult for us to understand how Christ could like a sinless life being in a world which is so corrupt; or how He could be sinless being born of Mary.
But it was the Holy Spirit who enabled Mary to have a child without a human man – this was by God’s design.
Christ gave that all up to accept our sin onto His shoulders and to die in our stead so we can be free from that sin.
He is our Righteousness. He took away our sins.

Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
This is a wonderful Psalm which many people know of because it is quoted so much; but have you thought about who this is referring to?
Our immediate thoughts may be this is God the Father but our Good Shepherd is Christ Jesus, God the Son.
Jesus has given us everything and yet so many people continually seek more and more.
Once we accept what He is giving us with open hearts, we find just how much we have and how little we lack.

Judges 6:24 So Gideon built an altar there to the Lord, and called it The-Lord-Is-Peace. To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
Gideon was given first-hand experience of God’s absolute love when he was shown love and peace when he was expecting death.
Gideon built an altar and named the place he was at Jehovah-Shalom, or The Lord is Peace.
That altar remained in place for some time because it was still there when the script was written describing the events which had happened.
Are you reminding people of God’s love and peace in a special way?

Exodus 15:16 Fear and dread will fall on them; By the greatness of Your arm They will be as still as a stone, Till Your people pass over, O Lord, Till the people pass over Whom You have purchased.
When the people of Israel were told to leave Egypt and trek through the desert in search of the promised land, God was with them all the way.
It may not seem like it because of all the trouble they got into. It may not seem like it because they were hungry and thirsty.
But they were protected against many enemies; all they had to do was to have faith and trust God.
Yes it is hard to keep your faith when all round you seems to be falling apart – but keep it and enjoy the experience.

Exodus 3:14 And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
When Moses asked for an explanation from God about how He should be introduced it was with the Hebrew word YHWH being the Self-Existent one.
What better way to express what God is that to describe Him in terms of always being here!
I love the fact God has always been and will always be. There is no need to try and figure out how long He has been around or the last time He was here.
He has always, is and will always be here!

Genesis 22:14 And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
If you wanted to name a place after a person, whom would you name it after?
Abraham wanted to make sure God’s name was lifted up high and this was one way of doing that.
People for generations would know this place as being the place where God provided for them.
God continues to provide for us day in and day out – make sure you tell others of the wonders He does in your life each day!

Genesis 18:27 Then Abraham answered and said, “Indeed now, I who am but dust and ashes have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord:
The name of God used in this verse is the Hebrew Adonai being the plural of Adon, Lord, God, Master.
God is the Trinity, not just some spirit who created everything. Each of His names is often used in the plural to cover each of the Trinity.
God, in three parts, blessed trinity.
God, the Son, as sovereign master and king.

Genesis 1:3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
The name of God used in the first verses in our bible is a unique name given to Him as the Creator of the heavens and the earth; and it has a plural ending.
It was Him (God, the creator of the heavens and the earth) who caused light to shine in our universe.
It was Him (Elohim) who gave us everything we can see – as far as we can see and beyond.
And He did this all so we would have a place to stay and to get to know Him through!

Numbers 16:22 Then they fell on their faces, and said, “O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and You be angry with all the congregation?”
When God said to Moses and Aaron how He would consume the whole congregation, they bowed before God and begged Him not to do so.
The same people who did wrong so many times and rejected God were the people Moses and Aaron were now protecting!
What sort of friend do you think you would be if you were faced with imminent danger?

2 Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
What wonderful affirmation; God knows each one of us and stands firm with those who know and love Him.
Let each of us who know and love God, try to stay clear of sin in our lives because we love Him and want to do it for Him.
Don’t just keep the law because it is the law; keep it because you have the best reason to keep it, trying to please God!

Genesis 18:19 For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.”
There are people who have been chosen by God for special reasons who are used as examples for the rest of us to follow.
God has special knowledge of our abilities and places us in positions where we can use those abilities in the best ways.
God knew Abraham would do what was right. He knows what we will do already. We are the ones who have to step up to the mark and fulfil our tasks for Him.

Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.
In the years before Christ our Messiah came to earth the prophets were the ones who heard directly from God and who’s position it was to tell mankind what God was saying.
This placed them in a very important position; probably very stressful and tiring too. They had to tell people what God was saying, be it good or bad!
It is never nice to pass on bad news to others, but we should always be trying to tell people the truth.
God gave the truth to the prophets so they could pass it on. Don’t hold back!

Psalm 25:14 The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, And He will show them His covenant.
Do you know what your secret of the Lord is yet? I have been described as being a good listener, but I still wonder…
I start each new day with the knowledge Christ has something for me to do. I look forward to what comes my way and hope to get His will done.
I know I fall short and I know I can do better; but without actually going through each day I would not know these things.
Live each day with Christ and listen to what He has for you.

Psalm 49:12 Nevertheless man, though in honour, does not remain; He is like the beasts that perish.
We love to think our homes are going to last forever. We love to think what we build up will outlast us.
If it does, where does it go to when we die? Who is going to gain from what we do and build up?
We all face death each day. We know we are going to die one day. But this should not stop us from trying to achieve the best we can for God!

Ecclesiastes 3:17 I said in my heart, “God shall judge the righteous and the wicked, For there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.”
As Solomon grew in wisdom and faith, He continued to explore the things man had said were true and found so much wanting.
He continued to see God’s law being there for both the wicked and the faithful; God is just!
Just because we may go to church faithfully and may read our bibles regularly and may read or write devotionals does not mean we are excused from God’s laws.
Live for God. Live for His Word. Live because He gave His Son.

Mark 1:3 “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; Make His paths straight.’”
Would you be willing to stand up as the only person in a crowd to say you were a Christian?
John was given the task of telling people about Christ, about promoting the gospel where few or none others would be doing so.
He was given a particular task in a particular location to do God’s work. God has a plan for each of us and a location for each of us…
Are you willing to put aside your wants and desires to listen to God’s plan?

Mark 6:12 So they went out and preached that people should repent.
What do you do for a living? How much of your time is actually spent talking to other people about God?
I know it may seem like we talk for a long time to others straight after church or before church, but in reality the time we spend is very short in comparison with other subjects.
The disciples went out to go and talk to people about God. Not as a side line but as their main task.
We do have to make a living and so we need to be able to work to earn money; but work should not exclude us from spreading the good news!

Acts 13:51 But they shook off the dust from their feet against them, and came to Iconium.
Do you know how hard it is to turn your back on someone when you know you are trying to tell them the truth?
I know it is very hard, but don’t look at it as turning your back on them. They are still there and you can still think about them and pray for them; just don’t waste too much energy trying to teach them the gospel.
There are plenty of people who God has prepared for us to talk to and plenty He knows will reject Him.
Follow God’s instructions and continue to talk to people who are willing to listen. He will work with the ones who are not and will change their hearts when He wants to.
