Psalm 119:160 The entirety of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.

How much of this psalm have you read after seeing these words over the past 11 days? Are you encouraged to find out more from the psalms?

I do pray that these snippets are enough to rouse your interest in God’s Word and that you start to sit and read a chapter now and again.

This is God’s Word, this is what He has inspired people to put to paper so that we can have it as a reference.

It has lasted a long time already and will continue to last forever because it is the truth!

Psalm 119:114 You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word.

As very young children we have probably all played some version of tag and named a place where we are safe from being caught; that place where we all ran to so we could be safe from all harm.

God has His arms wide open waiting for us to run back into His arms where we can be safe from everything forever!

And just in case we lose our way, He gave us His Word so that we have instruction, direction and encouragement to search Him our in our busy lives!

Psalm 119:111 Your testimonies I have taken as a heritage forever, for they are the rejoicing of my heart.

One of the things that I find amazing as I teach others about God is that the bible is still the only tool that we actually need.

Yes there are all sorts of things that I use to teach with, games, computers, props and even other people; but it is the Word of God that brings delight to others.

If people ever say that they come to one of my clubs I will correct them because they come to be with God, not with me. I am just a tool used by our awesome God.

I am proud to say that I teach from the bible, His Word!

Psalm 119:72 The law of Your mouth is better to me than thousands of coins of gold and silver.

One of the best ways of accepting a good slap is studying the Word of God! That may sound counterproductive because we never go out looking to be punished in any way, but think a little.

God has been trying to teach mankind about all the pitfalls in life for a long time. Much of that time we have ignored what He has been saying.

What better way than to have it all written down so that He can show us that He has been trying over and over again.

God’s Word is the living word of God. It is not just a piece of history and it is not just something to look forward to. It is all of the past, present and future for us all!

Psalm 119:71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn Your statutes.

Sometimes we have to be “slapped” so that we will stop and listen! And yes it does work when someone gives you a slap to make you stop and listen!

But the more we live with God the more we should realise that it is not just the physical slaps we get that should shape our lives. Listening to God will open your eyes even more.

When something goes wrong we should not just ignore it and move on but think a little before moving on. Don’t get stuck up in all your failures, but equally, don’t ignore them!

God works in all aspects of our lives so we should be listening to Him in all aspects as well!

Psalm 119:49 Remember the word to Your servant, upon which You have caused me to hope.

As if God needs reminding! Well, it is not for God that we lift up our prayers but for us and for others; so David’s prayer to ask God to not forget was really for his own benefit.

What God has said is a promise because He does not tell lies and He does not change, but we change and we make things difficult. So by lifting up this prayer it is as much a reminder to us to not forget that God has promised!

God gave us His Word so that we could have something to believe on and something to give us hope as we see His promises unfolding in our lives.

Take hold of those promises and keep reminding yourself!

Psalm 119:34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law; indeed, I shall observe it with my whole heart.

Before each of us knew Christ we did not truly know His ways. Some, like Paul, have a vast knowledge of the law but do not really know Christ.

I talk about knowing Christ here as a heart knowledge rather than a head knowledge because without that heart knowledge we will not seek to follow Christ; instead we will continue to follow the world.

Here, David asks for that understanding that God can give him so that he can apply God’s Law successfully into his life and live for Christ rather than the world.

Psalm 119:29 Remove from me the way of lying, and grant me Your law graciously.

One thing that I found hard to do was to turn away from lying after I became a Christian; I had been too used to embellishing on everything!

If we want to be able to turn our lives round, we are going to have to have someone who can help us because our strength alone is just not enough.

Christ wants to guide us and protect us, but that means making sure that we ask for His help every step of the way. That also means getting to grips with His Word so that we know the way. Hold on tight!

Psalm 119:22 Remove from me reproach and contempt, for I have kept Your testimonies.

Even though we read God’s Word and try to understand it, we are still who we are, we are still human beings.

When other people get on our nerves, we get upset. When other people work against us, we get down and resentment starts creeping in.

God has required of us that we love our enemies. That is a very hard thing to come to terms with as human beings. But when we give our situations to God, He can change our hearts to give us room for love when we cannot find any.

Allow God to change your heart when you cannot.

Psalm 119:9 How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.

Young men are typically prone to some vices and have been throughout time. David cries out here for all young men as a way of encouragement.

God has shown us that we can keep His Word if we really want to. The temptations, especially in our younger years, seem too varied and too many to resist.

But If we do keep God’s Word in our hearts and in our minds, we will be less prone to give in to those temptations that seem to surround and engulf us.

Psalm 119:2 Happy are they who observe his decrees and seek him with all their hearts!

We have our bibles and they tell us what God wants us to know. They are true records of the words written down by the prophets from the past of the words given to them by God.

If we have any sense we would keep to those words! It is easy to listen to nice words and follow them, but it may be hard to follow the truth.

God has given us His Word for a reason; to follow it. That is why He will bless us when we do!

1 Corinthians 13:8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

Never forget that love does not fail; we fail in our lack of understanding and lack of compassion.

There are so many things in this world that we think will continue on forever and never fail, and when they do we can be devastated!

Love will continue on for as long as we invite it into our lives. We are the ones that need to invite it in because it will not simply stroll in.

Yes God loved us before we knew anything, but we still have to invite Him in as our God. Do so and love forever!

1 Corinthians 13:4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;

Love does not just cover up sin like sweeping dust under a carpet. Love will completely overwhelm sin and will allow us to move forward together with others.

Love is not something that is here one minute and gone the next; it lasts forever and will not plough up the past.

Love does not bring jealous thoughts – that is just us. Love trusts and believes instead.

Love does not brag about itself but lifts us up together so that we can reach higher goals together.

Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins.

Peter may have based his words on this proverb, but he had reason to. We need to depend on what God has taught us throughout time and not just the here and now.

God has shown us that there is a time for everything and that we will go through all facets of life; but love must continue throughout it.

Hatred builds up ill feelings within us and those come to the surface pretty quickly when we leave love out of the equation; it is so easy to hit out at someone when we have hatred inside of us.

But love will allow us to move forward and to show others just how awesome God can be!

1 Peter 4:8 And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”

If you have doubts as to the importance of love in our lives then you really need to take notice of this phrase “and above all things have fervent love for one another”.

Peter did not take it lightly because he had been through a bit of a roller coaster ride growing up in Christ for the few years he was with Jesus. He knew the importance of love!

He also saw how important love is toward one another because of all the backbiting and quarrels he saw in a society that was supposed to be good!

Don’t let love slip at the last step.

1 John 4:20 If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?

Black and white are pretty different; but are a variation of the amount of colour being seen by us. Hot and cold do not feel the same; but they are a measure of the amount of heat as seen by us.

Love and hate, on the other hand are not a measure of the amount of love or lack of it. So when we say that we love God we open our hearts to Him, totally.

But to hate someone is more than just closing off your heart to them. So how can you have love for a God you cannot see and yet say that you can have room to hate anybody as well?

God created us all. Colours may matter. Heat may matter. Love is simply required!

1 John 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth; He showed us His love from the beginning and continues to show us love even when we do get things wrong.

That is our ultimate example to live toward; we cannot attain the level of love that he has shown to us, but we sure can try to get a bit closer.

That means loving one another. That means showing people we care. Not just saying it, but doing it!

When was the last time you really got involved with community work? When was the last time you just got up and helped someone?

Show people love. Show them God.

1 John 3:20 For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.

Each of us has a conscience that allows us to discern right from wrong; something that is inside of us and needs to be nurtured.

If we continually ignore it or go against it, we make it of no effect and then others say we have no conscience; but it is still there.

Our consciences let us know when we do things wrong as an early warning system to fix our ways before we go under.

God knows more than our consciences because He is the one who planted them inside of us; trust more in God to nurture your conscience still further.

1 John 3:7 Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous.

There will be many who try to change your mind about things by saying things to you and doing things differently; what we need to do is take a good look at what they are doing.

Those people who always do the right stuff are generally good people and those who do not are generally not. I say generally because there will be those who do things to deceive.

It is easy for a good person to get something wrong when they are trying to be good. It is very hard for a bad person to not do something bad. Spot the difference?

Matthew 13:38 The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one.

It is very easy for us to forget just who those weeds are that have been sown in amongst our good crops; but they are the people of Satan, his followers, people who do not know God!

Whilst many of them are simply there out of ignorance and cannot help it, there are some who have made the active choice to be there to support the one they think they can trust.

Do not ever be fooled into thinking that you can trust the evil one because his heart is not to support you but to bring you down and away from God; that is all!

Trust in God alone.
