Romans 13:13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.

As Christians we are often look upon as the role models in our communities; a title we don’t always look at with fondness.

But God has given us these positions for a reason, to shed light in a world which seems to be consumed with darkness most of the time.

Without someone who is going to stand against these ways, the world would simply copy each other and fall under peer pressure into a pit of doom... I don’t know how else to put it...

Romans 12:9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.

When we offer help to others, it must not be because that is what other do, it must not be because someone told you it has to be done...

We should offer help where we can because we want to offer help. We should offer love where we can because we want to love.

God has given us the ability to love and help others in every way we can and wants us to step forward and do this with a loving, willing and humble heart.

Love others like you love your God and watch the world around you change!

Luke 7:13 When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, ‘Don’t cry.’

One thing we see time and time again is the compassion Jesus had for the people around Him. When He saw someone in need, he wanted to help them, and He did!

This is the attitude we need to have in our lives as well – when we see someone in need, we should reach out to them and help them in any way we can.

Giving up comforts in your own life to help others in need should just be a matter of course and not something we step out of our way to do!

Luke 9:49 ‘Master,’ said John, ‘we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.’

Sometimes we have the best intentions, but we get it all wrong! We try to do what we think is right and end up breaking everything instead!

Jesus wants us to go into life with our eyes and heart open so we can see where else He is working.

Don’t blind yourself with blinkers which are man-made; open your eyes to see how God works in all ways around us.

Support people who are working for God – we are on the same team!

John 5:13 The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there.

Jesus is not going to put up big signs for you to follow before He does something for you. He is not going to take out an advertisement on television to tell everyone He has done something for you...

Jesus works, often silently, but always and faithfully, to uplift us and to ensure we can continue to spread the gospel.

Continue to trust in the unseen, but faithful and everlasting God, we can and does do so much more than we realise.

Spend time today thinking of all He has done for you!

Exodus 15:26 He said, ‘If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.’

Can you imagine having people all around you go off sick and not knowing which way to turn to keep safe? Of course you can! We are living it!

God wants us to focus on keeping to His will in our lives first of all. This will mean loving your neighbour and looking out for your enemies.

When we do focus on God, He will keep us safe and secure to do His works in our lives and to love and support our communities.

This does not mean ignoring safety guidelines or jumping into danger – it means keeping your eyes on God so He can guide you where you are needed!

Psalm 81:6 I removed the burden from their shoulders; their hands were set free from the basket.

If you will allow God to work in your life, you too will notice how He will lift the burden off of your shoulders and allow you to put down the things which are holding you back!

It is hard to let go and allow God to have a go in your life, but that is sometimes exactly what we must do. Stop trying to carry the burdens. Stop trying to pick up the dead weight.

God wants us to be free so we can work effectively for Him and not be weighed down by worldly things all the time...

Psalm 81:12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices.

When God saw people were more inclined to invite evil back into their lives than to follow His Commandments, He allowed them to follow their own desires...

This does not mean God stopped loving them or that He made them go and do evil things... it means God allowed them to go off and trip over their own feet to see how they were hurting themselves as well as God!

God continues to love us even when we walk off in the opposite direction – He continues to wait for us to return and will accept us with loving open arms!

Colossians 3:4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

Our eternal lives may be hidden from the world and we may seem like dreamers because we do hope for it...

The day is coming when Jesus will return in person and we will join Him in our eternal lives.

Thank God for you daily gifts because they are things to help you get through your life before Jesus’ return....

Jude 1:21 keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

It is the love of God which enables us to gain eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord; don’t be impatient with your path to eternal life...

God has appointed the time for us to join Him and we should do all we can to allow others to see the joy we have because we know we will have eternal life.

God’s love goes so much deeper that we realise and is a powerful tool we have in our lives to show others true hope. Use it!

Leviticus 25:17 Do not take advantage of each other, but fear your God. I am the Lord your God.

Too many times in our lives we take advantage of other people just because we can; too many of those times we do not think of the consequences, especially for those people.

When God said we need to love our neighbours it was not an excuse to abuse other neighbours!

God’s love is all encompassing and He wants us to share that same love with all the people around us and not just the people who pick and choose...

Love God openly and love your neighbours openly.

Leviticus 19:18 Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbour as yourself. I am the Lord.

Who is your neighbour? That is the first thing we ask when we read s verse like this, and, depending where you are in your relationship with God, your answer will differ...

God does not want to set limits for our relationships, not with Him or with anybody else. The Jews were taught how to refocus on God by keeping to themselves.

Only then did they get sent out by Jesus to tell the rest of the world about God and Jesus.

Love your neighbours by first making sure you love your God and yourself!

Luke 5:16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.

What do you do when you want to pray? Where do you go to pray?

These are often questions we think of and don’t know how to answer because we are taught, as Christians, to lift up our prayers to God no matter where and when we are.

Whilst this is true, sitting and waiting on God to answer prayers is better done when we do not have the mad distractions of the world taking us away from God’s Word.

Take time out just as Jesus did to be with God your Father.

Luke 5:11 So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

You may be surprised to find God calling you to do something different just when things are going right and everything seems to be falling into place...

God calls you where you are needed and not where you think you are doing the right stuff.

God wants us to listen to Him and to obey Him so we can be used to the best of our abilities where we are needed most of all.

The world around us is constantly changing and we don’t always see the need from where we are sitting!

Luke 5:5 Simon answered, ‘Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.’

How far are you willing to go when God asks you to do something? Are you willing to try something you have failed at time and time again just because God asks you?

Sometimes the trials are part of our growth and part of our learning because God wants us to do the right thing at the right time.

Obeying God every time He asks us to do something is the way our faith and strength grows.

Pray and Obey.

Matthew 22:40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.

I love the way Jesus drills home just how important it is to love God and to love your neighbours stating every other commandment hangs on these two.

The more you are able to love God and to love your neighbours, the more you will be able to keep the other commandments.

The more you are able to keep the other commandments, the easier you will find it to love God and love others.

This is why Jesus came to show us how important love is – because everything hangs on that love!

Matthew 22:39 And the second is like it: “Love your neighbour as yourself.”

When we get our head round how much we need to love God in our lives, this commandment should come easy!

We need to share this love we have with God with the people around us. Not just to say we love our neighbours, to give to foodbanks or to go to church, but to really care for them!

Our neighbours may well be the people over the road who don’t live like we do, who struggle with addictions or alcohol. Our neighbours are the people God loves, not the ones we choose to love.

Matthew 22:37 Jesus replied: ‘“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”

When the Sadducees tried to trip Jesus up in the words of the law, they did not expect the answer He gave them – and answer we still need to live up to!

Our first commandment should be to love the Lord our God with everything we have, every part of our being and without limit.

This way we get to have a much closer relationship with Him than we could through ‘being a good Christian!’

God wants us to love Him, because He loved us first!

Ephesian 6:11 Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

How often do you want extra protection so you can do something dangerous or difficult? Would you like to have some serious heat protection so you can see inside a great fire?

When we think of protection we normally think of physical protection and here we are given words to apply physical protection so we can stand up against the devil; because it allows us to realise we do need protection!

When we do things for God, we need spiritual protection against the things the evil one is going to throw in our paths just because he does not want us to succeed.

Fully Rely On God.

Romans 15:1 We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves.

Throughout His last days on earth, Jesus remained strong and continued forward with His task in hand. Without Him we would be lost in our sins with not a lot of hope!

Jesus was made strong through the power of God and through that strength was able to bare the weight of our sins on His shoulders.

Sometimes we may well be a little stronger than our neighbours and we should step forward and make sure we can help, following on in the steps of our Saviour Jesus Christ!
