John 5:24 Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.

My Dad was a great man in my eyes, one who grew up knowing God and is now with Jesus in Heaven at the start of his eternal life!

Dad got the know God more each day and continued to learn more and teach others about Jesus’ love for them.

We have this promise from Jesus about having an eternal home where we get to not just be with Him but enjoy His love continually for all eternity!

Psalm 33:2 Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.

Oh I wish I could play a musical instrument successfully! When I start trying to play, many will probably run the other way to get away from the din...

We need to praise God in any way we can, not just with the biggest harp or most strung guitar! God wants us to praise Him no matter how good or bad we are at doing it.

God listens to your heart when you praise Him – so praise Him from deep within your heart!

Matthew 6:22 The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.

Whilst living in London I have seen many horrible things, but I have also tried to bring God with me wherever I go to allow others to see there is still hope.

When we allow the bad things to be the big things in our lives, we get discouraged and downhearted; but if we focus on God and allow others to do the same, we feel and live the hope!

Allow your body to be filled with the living water and let it overflow into the lives of people around you. Spread love and hope!

John 15:9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.

When we see Jesus’ life, we see the ups and downs of a servant's life. We see how Jesus was willing to go beyond what we would consider as normal.

We see a Father’s love which enabled Jesus to do so much more than we could imagine. We see a Father’s love which focused on the future as well as the here and now.

Jesus wants us to work in the here and now so we can focus our communities on the future with God in Heaven.

1 Corinthians 8:3 But whoever loves God is known by God.

How do you draw closer to God? Can you lift yourself up above your own height? Can you climb the highest stairs to get closer to God?

Nothing we can physically do will get us any closer to God – it is what is in our hearts which draws us closer to God.

If we are willing to love God without limit and without prejudice, then we will experience the love of God beyond this world!

God wants us to be honest with our hearts and not just words and deeds...

1 Corinthians 13:3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

One thing I have learned from living on an estate with ‘real people’ is you have to be real amongst real people! You cannot hide behind pretence or behind boastings!

God does not want people who go out of their way to show how good they are and how successful they are. God wants silent, genuine givers.

If we big up ourselves or our teams, we are gaining recognition and making others focus on us instead of focusing on the needy and poor!

1 Corinthians 13:8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

Love never fails... we could stop there, but we would probably brush over the statement without thinking about it if we did stop there.

We have many things in our lives which we think will last forever, like prophecies, laws, kingdoms, whatever! But they do fade and die over time.

God’s love will never fail, and it will never diminish. The longer we live, the more love we see and the greater we know His love is.

Luke 15:17 When he came to his senses, he said, “How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!

When we step back from our positions of despair, we can often begin to see how other people are living in comfort when we are not.

But the truth is often hidden because some people are building up a picture of comfort when they are screaming inside!

If we are willing to get back to living with God, in any form we can, then we will soon see just how loving and caring God can be as He rushes out to greet us with open arms!

Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

No matter what happens in this world around us, no matter how mad we think the world is going, Christ has demonstrated His love for us, and nothing will ever detract from that!

The only thing which may make you think people are getting in the way of Christ’s love for you is yourself!

Our personal doubts and emotions can get the better of us without us realising.

In all things, look to God for love and support. Always.

1 John 4:19 We love because he first loved us.

Who is going to be the first one to step forward and show their love for everyone... waits for someone to step forward...

This reminds me of my days at school when the master asked for volunteers to go and work for charity! We all wanted to enjoy the events, but nobody wanted to step forward and help run the events!

Jesus made the first move by coming and laying down His life for us in a great demonstration of His love. Let us continue to replicate that love by sharing it on.

We don’t have to lay down our lives... how about volunteering for a day instead...

Luke 1:38 ‘I am the Lord’s servant,’ Mary answered. ‘May your word to me be fulfilled.’ Then the angel left her.

Did you realise yesterday’s verse was an angel talking to Mary? Today we see Mary’s response – the type of which we need to be willing to live.

If we are willing to trust in God with everything, we will be able to see more things happen because God makes it so!

The more we trust, the more we can see how God works in our communities and in our lives.

Trust in Him wholly!

Luke 1:37 For no word from God will ever fail.

No matter what goes on in this world and no matter how far we stray from God’s Word, nothing will change the truth and what God can do!

We have a God who has promised us much and delivered so much more than we expected.

We have a God who continues to make sure His Word remains the truth and continues to give us hope in our world.

Everything is possible with God – make sure you stand on the right side of the fence!

2 Timothy 2:7 Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.

How often do you rush in to do things before thinking things through?

I know I have got into trouble before because I have leapt in to fix things without concerning myself with the consequences and have had to pay afterwards!

God wants us to stop and think before we act; this does not mean putting things off until you want to do them but doing them with thoughtfulness!

Will you decide to step forward and help someone today?

1 Peter 5:8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

No matter where we live, the evil one is going to try and trip us up at every point he can – just because he can and wants to discourage us!

When we accept Christ into our lives, we are sealed as children of God and nothing can change that...

If we go back to our old ways, we are going to have a terrible time of being discouraged and doubting every step we take. This is not God letting us down but us listening to the world instead of to God.

Stop and think who you are listening to...

2 Samuel 24:17 When David saw the angel who was striking down the people, he said to the Lord, ‘I have sinned; I, the shepherd, have done wrong. These are but sheep. What have they done? Let your hand fall on me and my family.’

What do you do when people get into trouble around you? Do you stand back and blame them for doing wrong or do you wade in and try to help?

God wants us to be the kind of people who will wade in and share the burden on people’s shoulders.

Christ is our Shepherd who stepped forward to take the blame in our stead because He wanted to!

Will you step forward and help someone today?

Isaiah 50:4 The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.

I had to use this verse today when I read the words... I have not been given a well-instructed tongue! I do say the wrong things at the wrong time, time and time again!

But each day I get up and write another devotion because God encourages me to share from my heart as I try to listen to His instruction as I read His Word.

We are now in a month of lock-down in the UK and I continue to reach out with God’s love to everyone who is willing to listen... this comes from God’s Word, filtered through my heart.

2 Timothy 2:12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us;

Paul wrote very encouraging letters to Timothy, but each letter had dire warnings about the hard times ahead too.

The one thing which remained most important to Paul was to continue to have faith in Christ and His teaching.

Paul always tried to encourage others to have faith in Christ, knowing Christ would be ruthless to those who chose to side against Him.

Our words are important to others, just as Paul’s words and even Timothy’s words to those around him too.

Revelation 1:8 ‘I am the Alpha and the Omega,’ says the Lord God, ‘who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.’

If we look back in history, we can see so many instances when thousands of people died for seemingly no reason other than natural disasters or health reasons.

We may ask: Where was God during those times?

God was with us, is with us and will continue to be with us every step of our lives; through the good times and the bad times.

God will always be – we just need to choose whether we walk with Him or not...

Isaiah 32:25 I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.

Our world may well be in turmoil as the pandemic continues to spread and wreak havoc in many nations, but our God remains faithful and just throughout everything.

Our God alone can forgive and forget our sins – just as He has promised and continues to do when we come to Him humbly and truthfully.

Allow God to care for you and carry your burdens as the way grows dim and your weight heavier each day.

Revelation 21:5 He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!’ Then he said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.’

God told us, through the prophets, (see Isaiah 43:19) He is going to change everything so we can live with Him eternally.

How could this be if He hates sin? The only way it to make it as if we had never sinned in the first place...

This could only be done though the ultimate sacrifice where a perfect person would give His life in our stead...

That man is Jesus Christ!
