Psalm 18:1 I love you, Lord, my strength.

In moments of weakness, who do you turn to? Do you have a best friend who is always there? What happens when they are not?

God is always here for us and with us – we can ask for His love and support at any time.

When we feel weak, poor or forgotten, we need to call out to God through our Lord Jesus Christ to give us the strength to endure the issues we face.

Psalm 147:15 He sends his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly.

When God wants something to happen, He speaks and things happen!

We don’t have to research up on something in order for God to fix it! We don’t have to make sure everything is in place before God fixes stuff!

When God does something, people are going to hear about it no matter what way it is done.

Give God the glory for things He does in your life!

Psalm 149:1 Praise the Lord. Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of his faithful people.

How often do you sing out praise to God, not in your head but out loud!

How often do you praise God for the little things which happen in your life, those everyday things which go right?

How often do you tell others about Jesus?

We need to give Christ all the glory for everything He has done for us. We need to praise Him every moment we can of every day!

Acts 8:17 Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

It is amazing how the gospel spreads out far and wide – God makes sure His Word is heard by others and touches the right people at the right time with His love.

The people of Samaria had heard the gospel and they started believing. The apostles were surprised by what they heard and immediately sent two to go and minister to them.

They wanted to obey Jesus and make sure the Holy Spirit was going to be part of their lives so they could continue to learn from from hearing the gospel.

Mark 1:17 ‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people.’

Christ wants us to turn away from the trappings of this world and walk with Him in a manner like He did when He was on earth.

We may find it very difficult to live up to such a high calling, but with Christ’s help we can move forward with God!

We need to take into our heart what we learn from the bible and then share it with the people around us so they get a chance to get to know God too!

1 Samuel 1:18 She said, ‘May your servant find favour in your eyes.’ Then she went her way and ate something, and her face was no longer downcast.

Hannah had been troubled for a long time because she had not yet had a baby even though she had been trying for quite a while.

She came to the temple and pleaded with God, weeping bitterly and praying quietly – others could not hear her praying, but God did!

God answered her through Eli with a blessing. That was enough for her faith to make her whole and allow her to have a child!

Will you believe enough to hear God when He speaks through someone else?

Psalm 40:1 I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry.

When things are not going well, we shout out for help and we expect some sort of quick response – getting upset if we don’t have that quick response!

Christ came to demonstrate to us the love God the Father has for us and how He is willing to help us in many ways; but we do have to be patient.

Jesus had a very traumatic last couple of days. He chose to be patient and obey God. God rewarded Him by granting His plea to save us!

Be patient...

Psalm 44:23 Awake, Lord! Why do you sleep? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us for ever.

It’s OK to think you have been forgotten – even when you think God has forgotten you…

We would not be right, but it is still OK. Sometimes we get so mad because things have not gone our way and we need a way of venting our frustration!

God alone knows the right time and the right place to help us out in the best way possible.

We have to trust Him to do so!

Psalm 89:5 The heavens praise your wonders, Lord, your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones.

Each miracle, each answered prayer, each blessing is looked upon by heaven and God is glorified for making it happen.

We don’t tend to see just who is behind everything because we are too focused on this world.

When something good happen, give God the glory because He is probably already organising the next step!

Psalm 21:2 You have granted him his heart’s desire and have not withheld the request of his lips.

Sometimes we think God only answers the people who are “important” in some way or another – especially when we read about Kings and Queens having their prayers answered.

But king David was a sinner just as much as we are. God did not have to answer his prayers just because he was king.

God answered his prayers because he asked God!

Psalm 36:5 Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.

When things are not going well in our lives, we can feel very far from God because everything else seem to overwhelm us instead.

There is not place on earth, or anywhere, where God cannot reach out to you!

God’s love, mercy and faithfulness spans the heavens and the earth, covering all of us with extraordinary passion.

You cannot avoid God’s love!

Psalm 50:17 You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you.

What happens when you get told to do something you don’t want to do? Do you do it begrudgingly? Do you say yes but never do it?

When God asks you to do something He knows you are capable of doing it and he knows it is for the best in your life.

We need to listen to what God says and obey with gladness and praise… which can be hard!

1 Samuel 16:12 So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the Lord said, ‘Rise and anoint him; this is the one.’

When it was time for Samuel to go and anoint the next king of Israel, it was not a big public affair which would be celebrated with great street parties or public feasts.

God wanted Samuel to realise this was something God was choosing and not mankind. God was making the choice quietly behind the scenes.

All Samuel had to do was listen and obey – that is what God is asking of us too.

1 Samuel 17:39 David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking around, because he was not used to them. ‘I cannot go in these,’ he said to Saul, ‘because I am not used to them.’ So he took them off.

If there are any words in our bibles to remind you to be your own self, it is these words!

David, as a young shepherd boy, stepped forward to face a Philistine nobody else would. King Saul gave him armour to wear – what a privilege…

But David discarded it all to be himself and face Goliath with God as his protector.

Stand firm with God today!

Psalm 56:3 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.

When was the last time you had to totally depend on someone else? What was that feeling like?

When I was in hospital, I had to fully depend on the doctors and nurses to keep me alive; a very humbling experience.

God will give you what you need when you need it. Are you willing to trust Him to do that, or will you continue to try and make something for yourself?

Psalm 57:1 Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.

How often do you really rely on God? How often do you wait patiently for Him to answer your prayers?

God is not bound by time as we are. He has promised to answer our prayers. We need to obey Him and ask through prayer!

Don’t wait for the disaster to loom, step forward and ask in prayer before it gets that far!

Mark 3:21 When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, ‘He is out of his mind.’

When you start to do things as a Christian, you are going to get a fair amount of people who will think you are nuts because you are working for free or working harder than they think you should work.

But the more you work with God, the more you find out how rewarding it is, but also how many people need help!

When I was working in London I found a whole team of people who were willing to work hard to help others to get to know Jesus and to experience His love in one way or another!

Be the change!

Psalm 19:3 They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them.

How many times have you looked up at the night sky and marvelled at the number of stars out there? If you are able to find a dark place where there are no street lights, it looks even more magnificent!

Now imagine each one of those stars declaring the glory of God!

No matter how many people you hear shouting out the name of Jesus, it will never compare the the whole of heaven shouting out His name!

2 Samuel 5:10 And he became more and more powerful, because the Lord God Almighty was with him.

King David is known as the greatest king of Israel, not because he was a shepherd, a warrior or any other way you describe him!

He was the greatest king of Israel because he chose to listen to God (for the most part) and obey God (again, for the most part.)

Allow God to direct your hearts and minds so you can achieve the impossible, not by your strength, but through what God can do with you!

Galatians 1:12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.

Paul’s receipt of the gospel was not unique, but it is probably very different to many people’s expectations!

We think of learning about Christ from a preacher or teacher who can explain things to us; we don’t always think of receiving it direct from God.

God is willing each one of us gets the gospel direct if it is going to make the difference between us believing or not. Nothing is too much to ask.
