Psalm 94:12 Blessed is the one you discipline, Lord, the one you teach from your law;
When I look back on my life I see many places where I was disciplined because of the things I did wrong; and I learned from them all!
Sometimes I wonder at why modern society does not focus on discipline much any more – but it is my view and not what is actually happening.
Jesus wants us to listen to what His Word has for us, learning from it, obeying it and becoming better people as we try to emulate how Jesus lived His life.

Mark 8:22 They came to Bethsaida, and some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him.
When we are at wits end, sick, poor or feeling trapped in any way, it is easy to call out to God and ask for help.
When we read stories like this in the bible, do we think about the helplessness or the person affected, the hope of the people around, or the amazement of those onlookers?
What we need to do is to think of this more as an every day occurrence, always knowing our faith in Christ will give us miracles and blessings...

James 2:8 If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself,’ you are doing right.
How many times have you complained about your neighbours? How many times have you supported your neighbours?
What is the reason for the discrepancy between those two numbers?
Jesus wants us to be open and honest with our neighbours – this is how we can start to love them...

James 2:26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
God created us to be in three parts like He is, our immortal souls, our mortal physical bodies and our spiritual beings.
We need our spiritual side to fill our physical bodies and make us whole.
Our faith in God is not whole unless we have trusted Christ for our immortal lives, live our lives trying to do what is best physically and fulfilling our spiritual needs.
Be whole with Christ.

How many times have you looked around you and had similar thoughts to this?
We can look at the negative people and wonder where all the good and righteous people have gone, or we can focus on the good and righteous people and wonder what all the fuss is about?
Our outlook, or how we see the world, can affect our own lives just as much as other people can…
Look to God in everything!

Have you ever looked around you and wondered why the world around you is not calling out to God? I’m not talking about the people by the natural world!
God created the natural world and it exists because of Him, not in spite of Him.
The world lives with God and knows God as creator.
If we act more like the natural world, we will see a whole lot more of God!

James 1:9 Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position.
I used to struggle when people would say I have a high position in God’s Kingdom because I would always see others as being above me!
God may allow something in your life to lift you up to a position which you may have thought unobtainable in the past!
You may not be comfortable getting there and may not enjoy what you go through to get there – but God has you firmly in His grip!

James 4:10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
How many times has your pride got you into trouble? How many times have you got out of trouble by admitting to things before they went too far?
If we are willing to open our lives to the truth and allow the truth to guide us, we will get a whole lot further than fighting it and trying to live behind lies.
God wants us to admit out fault but not to dwell on them so much they suffocate us or destroy our spirit.

Psalm 49:12 People, despite their wealth, do not endure; they are like the beasts that perish.
We often think having loads of money will be able to get us out of situations or help us on our way to happiness…
If we do not have the wisdom or understanding to use that money well, then it is nothing to us and we will not gain what we think we can by it!
Don’t set an unrealistic goal in your life based on other people’s experience – set a goal which you will be able to achieve, even if you need help along the way...

Psalm 103:6 The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.
My heart goes out to the people of Ukraine at this time, knowing a foreign tyrant is waging war against them just because they want to be different!
God hears the calls of the people in need and He answers! We may not think so, but He knows what is best for us and will answer when the time is right.
In the mean time, lift up your prayers and plead with God for justice to be done.

James 5:20 remember this: whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
Have you ever been stopped from doing something before it got out of hand? Have you ever watched as someone went out of control because they took a wrong turn to being with?
Whether it is you or someone else, we all need guidance and encouragement at some stage!
If we are able to stop someone taking that first wrong step, it is going to stop them from the multitude of errors they would have to make to cover for that first mistake...

Psalm 99:8 Lord our God, you answered them; you were to Israel a forgiving God, though you punished their misdeeds.
How many times have you thought God has not answered your prayers because something didn’t happen the way you wanted it to happen?
When God answers prayers, we may not like the answer because He is answering what we need and not what we desire.
But, no matter how much we think goes wrong, God is always ready and willing to forgive us, even when we have gone astray!

Psalm 111:6 He has shown his people the power of his works, giving them the lands of other nations.
When we look back on the history of the people of Israel, we can see how God continued to look after them – even when they faltered in their belief or worship!
God chooses to love us for who we are. He continues to love us no matter what!
If we are willing to stay in contact with Him and listen to Him, we too will be able to see how much He can and will provide for us.

I hazard to say it is easy to spot when someone tells a lie because many people do get away with lies in their lives!
God wants us to be honest and open, spreading the truth and allowing others to make their own minds up!

Psalm 51:17 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.
God is no longer looking for us to sacrifice animals (or anything else) on an altar to appease Him for our sins!
Christ came to be the ultimate sacrifice so none of that was required any more – but we still have to admit to those sins.
When we openly and humbly admit to our sins before God, He is faithful and just to forgive us just as He promised!

Psalm 1:4 Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.
Have you ever tried to gather up leaves on a dry, windy autumnal day? I can tell you, it doesn’t go well!
This is how the wicked are compared to when they are trying to get into Heaven – they will get blown away by the winds of justice!
God is faithful and just. This means He will not turn a blind eye to the corruption and evil in this world – we will have to answer to Him, personally!

Psalm 51:18 May it please you to prosper Zion, to build up the walls of Jerusalem.
As we see the war in Ukraine continuing, we praise God for the good example being set by many Christians in Ukraine who are reaching out to the Russian invaders.
Lord, touch the hearts of the people involved and allow them to see they too can prosper when they call for you in their lives!
Protect your people, Lord, allow them to prosper in spirit and in health and in safety even when surrounded by evil and war!

Don’t look to the world to save you from evil because the world has too much evil in it to make a difference.
We need to look to God for our strength and guidance because only God can make the change in someone’s heart.
Don’t be shy about showing the world you trust in God otherwise they will never know just how much He can help us!

Romans 10:9 if you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
God does not require us to make sacrifices of all our first born, our best animals, our money or wealth… He simply wants us to acknowledge Him as Lord God in our lives.
When we acknowledge Him as everything, believing in our hearts He is our one true God, He has promised to save us!
Believe the gospel. Trust the gospel. Make the gospel the reason for living. God will keep you close and safe!
