Psalm 116:12 What shall I return to the Lord for all his goodness to me?
Have you stopped to think about all the things God has done for you?
How have you repaid His for all those things?
God doesn’t do things so you will do things for Him… He does things because He loves you…
But He would be proud to know you do things for Him too!

1 Samuel 1:17 Eli answered, ‘Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him.’
When Hannah prayed silently to God by the doorstep of the Lord’s house, Eli presumed her to be drunken.
She opened up to Eli and said she was praying earnestly in anguish.
Eli’s answer was to ask God to grant her wish, which He did, and that is how Samuel was conceived!

1 Samuel 3:10 The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ Then Samuel said, ‘Speak, for your servant is listening.’
It took both Eli and Samuel a few times to realise it was God calling to Samuel.
It may take us a few times because we may not recognise who is calling!
But when we answer and invite God in, He will use us in mighty ways!

Ezekiel 33:7 Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.
When God says something to you, you really should take notice!
God wants to warn all evil people they are doing evil and will have to pay for their sins in the end…
If we can change a few minds, they can change some too...

Mark 2:9 Which is easier: to say to this paralysed man, “Your sins are forgiven,” or to say, “Get up, take your mat and walk”?
When Jesus was faced with teachers of the law in Capernaum, He faced them head on knowing God was in control!
Often when we are faced with difficulties we cave in a don’t know what to do…
Making sure you remind yourself God is in control is always the best way forward – because He IS!

How often have you praised God over and over again?

Psalm 139:4 Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.
If God knows exactly what we are going to do and say and think, why doesn't He stop us from doing things wrong?
Because He has given us free choice in our lives so we can make the choice to follow Him and know we are not being forced to do so.
He will give us the moments to stop and commune with Him – it is our choice whether we do or not!

Psalm 50:7 Listen, my people, and I will speak; I will testify against you, Israel: I am God, your God.
When we stop listening to God, why should He continue to try to talk to us?
When God talks to others He may be trying to get them to come to us and get us going once again.
Wouldn’t you rather be the one enjoying the Good News and sharing it with others?

Psalm 89:20 I have found David my servant; with my sacred oil I have anointed him.
When God makes a choice, it is not done by how good things look or how rich and expensive things are.
God chooses by righteousness and will always make the right choice and stand by that choice forever.
Don’t forget, He chose you, and He will stand by His choice forever!

When we are faced with the impossible it is God whom we should be calling on.

1 Samuel 18:7 As they danced, they sang: ‘Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands.’
Does it hurt when others brag about someone else being better than you?
How often do you brag without thinking of the consequences?
Will you try to stop and think about the people around you before you start saying how good you are or how bad someone else is?

Psalm 57:5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.
One thing we can do is to act differently to others on earth!
Allow people to see Christians should live differently and include others in everything we do.
Thank you Dad for teaching me this while you were still with us!

Psalm 80:4 How long, Lord God Almighty, will your anger smoulder against the prayers of your people?
How often have you though God wasn’t helping you as much as He should?
How many times have you done something God and you both know you shouldn’t have?
Don’t be the judge. Allow the Holy One, God, to be the rightful judge!

John 2:5 His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you.’
Mary knew what Jesus was capable of because she fully believed in who He was.
When things did not go so well at the wedding, she called for Jesus and told the servants to do everything Jesus told them to do.
Out of obedience and faith they filled the water jars with water and Jesus turned them to wine.

2 Samuel 5:3 When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, the king made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel.
David made sure the truth always came out – even when he was the one trying to hide it!
Here the people recognised the truth and elected their next king because of what he had done for them.
You can be assured the truth will come out – are you willing to support that truth?

2 Samuel 6:19 Then he gave a loaf of bread, a cake of dates and a cake of raisins to each person in the whole crowd of Israelites, both men and women. And all the people went to their homes.
When David had completed his sacrifice to God to give Him all the glory, he stopped and did something personal.
He gave each person in the crowd who came to worship God a load of bread and a cake of raisins!
This was his way of saying, just as we are enlisted into God’s family, we are all in one big church family!

Psalm 89:21 My hand will sustain him; surely my arm will strengthen him.
As David continued to live he remembered the promise God had made to sustain and strengthen Him.
This same promise comes to each of us and we should readily accept it from God.
We should also sing our praises to God just as David did throughout his life!

1 Kings 2:3 and observe what the Lord your God requires: walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go
When King David knew he was dying, he called Solomon to him and gave his some instructions.
His words were simple – to listen to God, obey God and do what He requires.
This is what being a disciple looks like and this is what Jesus asks of us.

Psalm 18:6 In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.
What happens when you lift your prayers to God? He listens and answers!
Our problem is we don’t want to wait for God to answer our prayers in the perfect way…
We want answers, and we want them now! We don’t wan to wait for anyone!

Psalm 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
Jesus was always ready to stop and teach people the Good News, the Gospel.
When people hear and accept the Gospel, they begin to want to live by those words.
The Good News must be planted in our hearts so it will flourish where we can then live by it and avoid sin in our lives!
