Deuteronomy 5:29 Oh, that they had such a heart in them that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!

I often used to think that I had to sort myself out and that when I did do that, God would be more willing to take me in; but that is not the case!

God is willing to accept us in whatever state we are in as long as we come to Him in repentance and humility. He then gives us the opportunity to change so that we can be more like Him.

He gives us the chance to keep His commandments and take His Word and keep it in our hearts; that way He has more to work with!

Joshua 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Learning bible passages is actually quite important. If we treat God’s Word like we do any other novel or story, we will tend to put it aside and move on with our lives.

But if we take it in, think about what God is actually trying to tell us, and then hold on fast to that new knowledge, we will be in a much better place with God.

Joshua was given these words of wisdom when they were facing many wars with the Canaanites; God was telling Him to trust in Him and remember all that He had already done for them throughout history.

Psalm 111:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.

These words are echoed in a few places and show the deep understanding that existed between the author and God.

When we do study our bibles we gain a new insight into the things of God as well as a beginning of understanding of the ways of God. We continue to learn and grow in God as we continue to study His Word.

As we grow we begin to understand how important it is to live by His rules and to give Him praise continually for all He continue to do for us.

Proverbs 28:13 He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.

Whilst we may wish to cover the sins of someone else, covering our own sins is wrong. Why so? Because covering someone else’s sins is showing them mercy, whilst covering your own is deceit.

Christ alone has the power to cover other people’s sins once and for all whereas we can forgive people of their sins toward us, but not toward God.

When we do open up our lives and confess our sins before God, He is able to forgive them and will forgive them. What an awesome God!
