Psalm 119:49 Remember the word to Your servant, upon which You have caused me to hope.

As if God needs reminding! Well, it is not for God that we lift up our prayers but for us and for others; so David’s prayer to ask God to not forget was really for his own benefit.

What God has said is a promise because He does not tell lies and He does not change, but we change and we make things difficult. So by lifting up this prayer it is as much a reminder to us to not forget that God has promised!

God gave us His Word so that we could have something to believe on and something to give us hope as we see His promises unfolding in our lives.

Take hold of those promises and keep reminding yourself!

Psalm 119:34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law; indeed, I shall observe it with my whole heart.

Before each of us knew Christ we did not truly know His ways. Some, like Paul, have a vast knowledge of the law but do not really know Christ.

I talk about knowing Christ here as a heart knowledge rather than a head knowledge because without that heart knowledge we will not seek to follow Christ; instead we will continue to follow the world.

Here, David asks for that understanding that God can give him so that he can apply God’s Law successfully into his life and live for Christ rather than the world.

Psalm 119:29 Remove from me the way of lying, and grant me Your law graciously.

One thing that I found hard to do was to turn away from lying after I became a Christian; I had been too used to embellishing on everything!

If we want to be able to turn our lives round, we are going to have to have someone who can help us because our strength alone is just not enough.

Christ wants to guide us and protect us, but that means making sure that we ask for His help every step of the way. That also means getting to grips with His Word so that we know the way. Hold on tight!

Psalm 119:22 Remove from me reproach and contempt, for I have kept Your testimonies.

Even though we read God’s Word and try to understand it, we are still who we are, we are still human beings.

When other people get on our nerves, we get upset. When other people work against us, we get down and resentment starts creeping in.

God has required of us that we love our enemies. That is a very hard thing to come to terms with as human beings. But when we give our situations to God, He can change our hearts to give us room for love when we cannot find any.

Allow God to change your heart when you cannot.
