1 Peter 1:25 But the word of the Lord endures forever.” Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.

Each of us has a limited lifespan on earth, and each of the possessions we have too are limited. We may have a favourite bible, but the cover and pages soon wear out as we use it.

But the words that are held inside the bible will last forever because that is what God has promised us.

These are the words that Christ used to rebuke Satan and the same words that we need to learn to teach others with. This is the very word of God!

Matthew 5:18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

Let us not get carried away by trying to figure out why the writer used Hebrew language or syntax but just to accept this phrase for what it is.

No part of God’s Law will ever be discarded until the whole of the law has been accomplished or completed!

We cannot ignore God’s law. We cannot ignore our bibles. Yes man makes mistakes but God’s Law stands firm and unchangeable! Don’t try to change it to suit yourself!

James 2:10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.

Would you try to drive a car that has got a wheel missing? How about sitting on a chair that has got a leg missing?

When we look at the obvious we don’t have to think too hard about what is right and wrong; but sin is not always that simple to spot from our point of view.

If we are inside the car already, we may not see one wheel missing. When we live our lives without caring for God’s ways we will not spot when we do things wrong until it may be too late… but we are still guilty…

Romans 2:12 For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law.

God’s law is perfect and it will always be upheld by Him because He is perfect! Man’s laws are certainly not perfect because we see people get away with things because of holes in the law.

If we ignore the law totally then we will still be judged, even if it is just that we are judged according to what we do know.

God will not allow us to get away with everything just because we bury it under a really large carpet!

Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Just because we live in a corrupt world does not mean that we have to live by those corrupt rules!

God has given each of us a beautiful mind that can discern many things. For some that mind is much more able than others, but to each of us He has given what we need to learn from Him.

It is hard to understand God’s ways, but by listening to Him we can continue to learn how best to approach the sinful world we live in. It is a case of listening though because the world can be very loud!

Ephesians 5:9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),

The one thing that we can be sure of is a change of attitude when we put our faith and trust in Christ alone.

When we continue to grasp at what the world can offer or continue to follow worldly ways then we will find that others will see the world through us and not see the fruits of the Spirit.

If we want the fruits of the Spirit to show then we have to make sure that God has room to work in our lives; that we are not pushing Him out and favouring the ways of the world!

John 7:37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.

The last day of the feast of tabernacles was regarded as a great day, not because of the amount of sacrifices offered because they would offer less on this day. This day was regarded as great because the offering made on this day would be for the people of Israel themselves.

And just as David had done many years previously, they would pour out a water sacrifice.

What Jesus was saying here was that the sacrifices would never be as worthy as people following Him with their hearts. Jesus made an end to the need for sacrifices by being the perfect sacrifice for us all.

2 Samuel 23:16 So the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines, drew water from the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate, and took it and brought it to David. Nevertheless he would not drink it, but poured it out to the Lord.

When the three mighty men teamed up they were able to get into the Philistine stronghold and draw fresh water from the well to bring back to their king.

They did this out of love and loyalty, being willing to sacrifice themselves for their king. But what David did must have made them wonder why they had risked everything!

David was after spiritual filling rather than fresh water. The price paid for fetching that water made it a suitable sacrifice to God, one that David did not take lightly!

Ecclesiastes 4:12 Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

When we intertwine multiple cords together we get a rope that is much stronger than the sum of the cords put together; this happens because of the friction between the cords as well as a few other factors.

When we are placed together with other Christians we make a stronger force than just the individual parts joined together because of our differences and our similarities.

God wants diverse people to come together to make a stronger and more able church that can do more to glorify Him than individuals working for themselves.

Ecclesiastes 4:11 Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; But how can one be warm alone?

When God created us, He created us as man and woman, as companions. This was not just for reproduction but for so many facets in life.

God knows how much we do need companionship and how much more we can do when we are with another Christian rather than trying to go forward alone.

If we can get a spark out of two dull looking objects by hitting them together, then imagine how much God can get out of us when we team up with another Christian; and how much more when we are put together with the right person!

Ecclesiastes 4:5 Fools fold their hands and ruin themselves.

When we see what others have we may be envious of what they have. If we are willing to work to try and get what they have then that is one thing, but if we just sit back and expect things to happen then we will be in for a bit of a shock.

God does not expect us to stand around waiting for others to do our work for us. He wants us to use the gifts that He has given us to work toward glorifying Him in all that we do.

If we do not feed ourselves with the Word of God, we will be the ones who starve and look to others things to try and satisfy ourselves – but nothing will feed us like God’s Word!

Ecclesiastes 4:4 And I saw that all toil and all achievement spring from one person’s envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

Have you noticed that the strongest forms of envy follow the worldliest things in life; the things we cannot take with us when we die!

We know we cannot do anything with riches after we die, and yet we still envy; this is why envy is the strongest emotion that destroys instead of building up.

Trying to chase after envy is about as good as trying to capture the wind in your hands; you can feel it and know it, but cannot do anything about it!

Genesis 37:11 And his brothers envied him, but his father kept the matter in mind.

When Joseph started to have prophetic dreams that were telling of things to come his brothers did not like what was being said because they could see a pattern emerging that would mean they would have to serve him!

He was the youngest and should have had to look up to them, but these dreams were saying the opposite!

It was only his father who could see that these were coming from God and that they should be observed, believed and kept in their hearts. So that is what he did – he kept them in his heart.

Mark 9:10 So they kept this word to themselves, questioning what the rising from the dead meant.

Has anyone asked you to keep something to yourself when you have not really understood what is going on anyway?

Some people find it very hard to keep secrets. Some people just need to tell the whole world everything!

Jesus wants us to tell the world about Him; but first and foremost He wants us to know Him before we go out and tell everyone! That means getting to grips with His Word to find out what He means to us so we can show others the truth.

Matthew 16:7 They discussed this among themselves and said, ‘It is because we didn’t bring any bread.’

When Jesus warned His disciples about the leaven or yeast, He was talking figuratively rather than explicitly. The disciples started thinking about the physical and assumed He was talking about bread because they forgot to buy any!

How many times do we not listen to others properly and get the wrong end of the story?

God wants us to listen to Him carefully and understand what it is He requires from our lives, not just to listen to the words and do something!

Luke 12:1 In the meantime, when an innumerable multitude of people had gathered together, so that they trampled one another, He began to say to His disciples first of all, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

Have you ever been in a huge crowd of people; maybe a crowd coming into or exiting a huge stadium? I always have this weird feeling… what if something goes wrong whilst we are all stuck here!

When you walk through city streets or through any crowd you hear snippets of conversations that others are having. If we listened to them all we may well get upset through what others say.

God does not want us to get caught up in what others are talking about; instead He wants us to focus on His Word.

Ecclesiastes 12:14 For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.

How often do you look at the evil people in this world and ask how they can get away with the things they do? Why doesn’t God stop them?

The simple answer is that they do not fully understand this statement; Jesus will judge everyone according to their works!

It will not be compared to what we think we can get away with but according to God’s Word itself that He gave us from the beginning!

Nothing we do can ever be hidden from God…

Romans 2:16 This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.

There is no getting away from the fact that God’s Word is the truth and what is written in it will happen if it has not already done so!

Jesus is the one who laid down His own life for our sins and He is the one that is going to judge every secret we have tried to hide from the world when the time is right.

Christ’s judgment will be according to His righteousness which is described to us as best we understand through His Word; so we had better believe His Word before we go too far!

Hebrews 4:13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

Christ is Lord of everything! He is not just Lord of the people of Israel, nor just the Lord of Christians. Everything is under His command from the smallest of creatures to the largest stars in the heavens.

It is God who knows all and sees all and not man. Yes we have managed to discover many hidden gems in God’s universe, but it is still God’s universe!

When we are done with our lives here on earth it is Christ who we have to give an account to!

1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

When God sent Samuel in to anoint the future King of Israel He told Samuel that there was a big difference between what God sees and what man sees.

Israel had chosen Saul as king because he was a mighty man, tall and powerful and probably very imposing. Most people look up to powerful people and listen to them; so man’s choice is not always right.

God knows what is going on inside people’s hearts and minds and so can make a perfect choice rather than a good guess as we do!
