James 2:10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.
If we were to rely just on the scriptures from the Old Testament we would very quickly find out that we fall short of the rules and regulations; which makes us guilty of everything!
But those same scriptures point to a Messiah which would solve this problem for us by coming to take away that sin debt from us when we truly believe on Him.
Christ came to fulfil that prophecy and now we do have to take on that truth so that we will be able to be forgiven and be not guilty before God!

James 2:9 But if you show favouritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as law-breakers.
Is favouritism a sin in itself? No. But when we do show it we often get caught up in our own feelings and put aside the law!
The sin is turning our backs on the law that God gives us just so that we can do what we want to for someone else; that is actually lifting up the person above God.
God has already told us many times that we should not lift up anything or anyone above Him because He is Sovereign God.
Love that special someone, but love God first of all.

John 7:24 Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.
There are times when we do judge people just because of the way that they look or even talk! Sometimes we may even be half right…
Christ continued to fight an uphill battle with the Scribes and Pharisees as they continued to judge people because of their social position rather than for what they actually were.
God looks inside our hearts and knows what we are like from the inside – allow what people have on the inside to come out before you break everything!

Luke 13:15 The Lord then answered him and said, “Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it?
One of the things that Jesus showed the people was that they had taken God’s Word and had twisted it beyond what is written down into something they could manage.
God’s Word is never meant to be changed and certainly not to be used as a tool by which man can have his own way!
Jesus had no issue with healing on the Sabbath because that was not work but an act of God’s love. Don’t use excuses to hide behind, not even on God’s day of rest!

Exodus 34:21 Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest; in ploughing time and in harvest you shall rest.
When God set the law about resting on the seventh day it was not something that could be changed over time but something that was set throughout time!
The Ten Commandments were written on stone tablets so that they lasted for as long as possible. God wants us to remember His law continually.
We all come up with various excuses how we can do some work on the seventh day, but God reminds us here that there are no excuses!

Genesis 45:6 For these two years the famine has been in the land, and there are still five years in which there will be neither ploughing nor harvesting.
When God gives us warnings and we don’t listen we can be sure that He is going to have to do something drastic for us to stop and listen again!
Why would one verse say harvest would continue and another say it would stop? Because God said the seasons and harvest time would continue and in this case that there would be no appreciable harvest that could be gathered in during that time.
God wants us to listen and when we don’t, He may have to stamp His foot down!

Genesis 8:22 “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease.”
God alone has appointed the time that this earth will remain and He alone controls what will happen after that point and even before it, what lies ahead.
He has promised us that we do not need to worry that this earth will fall apart or that it will be obliterated by some random comet passing by or that it will stop spinning and let us all fly off!
We have His word on this and that is enough for me! He has shown me enough in my past to know that I can wholly trust in Him!

Psalm 119:91 They continue this day according to Your ordinances, For all are Your servants.
The more that scientists discovery about the world the more amazing a place we realise it is and the more of an elaborate story they have to come up with the figure out how it ‘happened’.
We simply need to have faith that God created everything and that it is God that is holding it all together. The laws of physics assume invisible powers that hold things together…
God is in control. Man just wants to try and take control… Allow God to continue showing us how it is done and believe and trust in Him for exactly that!

Matthew 8:13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that same hour.
Sometimes it can be hard to accept that certain things happen in life and miracles are one of those things which many people refuse to believe.
This centurion displayed faith in Christ by believing that Jesus was able to do anything. He knew that his men would obey him when he gave orders and he quite expected Jesus to have that sort of ultimate authority, not just on people but on everything.
Accept Jesus as God and believe in His power!

Isaiah 43:8 Bring out the blind people who have eyes, and the deaf who have ears.
It is hard to give out the Gospel to people you are sure are not listening or those that just don’t want to see; but God has given us a task and that task is to give out His Word.
To us, every single person out there has eyes and ears to see and hear. It is our weak spirits that shy away from teaching others because we cannot see how we can get through to some people!
We cannot see inside people’s heart and we cannot read their minds, but what we can do is to tell them about God.

Hebrews 9:14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
We can try to sacrifice all manner of things in our lives but it is only when we give up something that we really want that we begin to get the actual meaning of sacrifice.
That does not come close to the sacrifice Jesus paid for us with His own blood! Think on that for a while…
Now when you start to do something which your conscience is telling you is not right, think again on that sacrifice!

Psalm 51:7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
This verse used to remind me of images of people beating themselves with branches until it was explained better to me!
Each of us needs to remember that we are guilty before God and that we do need to ask for forgiveness. That forgiveness is forthcoming when we ask.
To ask, we need to admit our guilt and show our guilt to God. On the first Passover the people purged themselves by sprinkling the lamb’s blood with hyssop branches. Don’t beat yourself up!

James 1:3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
Have you ever wondered why you have to do drills and other repetitive exercises in order to become proficient at a sport or task?
Almost sounds like a silly question when you put it like that; so why then do we wonder at why we should have to have our faith tested at times?
God allows our faith to be tested so that we will learn how to wait on Him and to be patient with that. It also gives us time to make sure that we have got it right and can stand on our faith!

2 Peter 1:20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation,
It still amazes me that people will take some part of the bible and try to make it support their own reasoning or interpretation instead of accepting the whole truth of God’s Word.
We take a single verse each day and bring you ‘good news’ (the gospel) as God directs through His Word and through scholars and preachers from the past who God has used incredibly.
God’s Word is exactly that, God’s Word, and not an example text by which we can make our own vain interpretations work just because we want our own way!

2 Corinthians 4:6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
In order for a torch to be able to shine in the darkness it must have a source of energy that will allow the light to shine bright. Nowadays that is a case of putting a battery into the torch and switching it on!
But for us to be able to shine for others we need a source of energy that others do not have. That source then needs to feed the light that will shine forth.
That source is the Word of God. That light is our lives. Christ has given us the knowledge so that we can use that source to shine brightly in the world so others can find out that knowledge too.

Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
Take note of that first word “Blessed”! Have you ever noticed how you never quite feel good enough when you are not walking with God?
Have you noticed that no matter how good life on this planet gets, it gets a whole lot better when God is in your life?
Let us stop living for this world and start living for Christ. If you want joy and peace, look to the author of joy and peace: Christ our Saviour!

Genesis 6:5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
What happens if you are following someone or something and you take your eyes off of your target for a short while? It may just be to wipe your eyes or clean your glasses or something small, but once you have lost sight of your target it can be very difficult to get it back!
God wants us to love Him with all our might so that we will not lose sight of Him. If we don’t concentrate we may well lose sight of His ways and lose track of our direction!
Once we lose direction it goes downhill a bit faster than we realise!

Deuteronomy 6:5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
Have you ever been in love? I mean really in love… not just a bit but totally immersed in your feelings for someone else?
How do you treat you love for God? Do you treat Him with that same respect as for the person you are in love with? Do you want to be with Him always and forever?
What do you actually do so that you can be with God and Him with you? Does this display and define your love for Him in the right way?

James 5:12 But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. But let your “Yes” be “Yes,” and your “No,” “No,” lest you fall into judgment.
One of the biggest problems that we face is the amount of lies that we have to face or even tell others.
When God said that we should always be truthful, it was not just to please others but to make sure that we do not fall into the pit of destruction ourselves!
Does that sound harsh? Well think about the consequences of a lie. Think about the destruction and broken hearts it eventually brings and don’t try to make excuses this time!

James 5:8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.
If we are called to look after a garden then we have to work and be patient! Digging in new plants and things does require a whole lot of work and preparation, but waiting for them to grow requires a lot of patience.
We cannot just leave it and hope for the best either but rather have to continue on working and supporting things as they grow.
God wants us to have a heart that is willing to work, be patient and continue working as well. He wants us to be willing servants so we can have our just reward!
