Psalm 40:16 Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; Let such as love Your salvation say continually, “The Lord be magnified!”

If we are helped by someone then it is seemingly easy to tell others about what they have done for us or how much we think of them for helping us. It is also easier to trust them after that helping hand too.

When we put our faith in Christ and seek Him with our whole heart we will find that we are encouraged through what we do for God and are more able to rejoice in everything that comes our way.

When we realise just how much Christ has done for us on the cross then we are able to go that one step further and magnify His name above all else.

1 Corinthians 10:22 Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy? Are we stronger than he?

I think the one thing God hates more than anything else is when people will try to promote an idol into His position. How can we expect to take something we have made and promote it into the position of the God who has made us?

For us to be able to do that would mean that we think that we are in some way stronger or better than He is.

When we turn round to our parents and tell them that we are better than they are they have mixed feelings for us: despair that we should come to that point, disappointment that we should not respect them, and much more. How do you think God should feel?

Job 38:28 Has the rain a father? Or who has begotten the drops of dew?

Just as it is God that gives us the rain and the early morning dew, so God is the one who will shower other blessings on us when it is time to do so.

We cannot control the rain or any other season; we rely fully on God to deliver on time and is the required amount. When rain falls we can try to save it in dams and other reservoirs, but that rain is still dependent on God and nothing else.

Let us then rely more on God for His blessings and His advice because He has shown us how exacting His control on weather can be, but for good and bad…

Psalm 90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

What would you do if you quite literally had all the time in the world? No matter how long you think the world has been here or how long it took to make, God has always been around.

We find it hard to imagine having time to do absolutely everything we ever wanted to do because we are limited by time and we don’t know anything else; but God has no such limits because He made them for us!

Don’t worry that we are limited by time, just remember to include God in everything you do because He can always help.

Isaiah 1:16 “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil,

Have you ever tried to wash yourself after you have got into a big mess? It’s not always easy to wash off stuff that is designed to stain or to be permanent and if we have to be clean for an interview or work, then we may feel very dirty…

Sin is like that in our lives. It makes us feel very dirty; because we are. And when we try to clean ourselves we find that we get into more of a mess…

Christ can cleanse us totally if we come to Him and ask Him to. But first we need to come to Him…

Amos 5:14 Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.

Have you ever noticed that when you start to misbehave your friends don’t always want to be around you? When you go off and do something stupid many of them will leave you and rather do something different…

Well don’t expect God to continually walk by your side if you are going to go off and break all of His rules all the time. God cannot abide sin. Why should He have to put up with any sin when Jesus has already paid for it on the cross?

Christ paid for you sin. We do not have to be bound by that sin. We do not have to go there. We do not have to… we have the choice…

Amos 5:12 For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: afflicting the just and taking bribes; diverting the poor from justice at the gate.

No matter how you look at it, God is omniscient: at means that God knows everything. When we do bad things against others we are doing it in front of God because He knows, He sees and He hears everything.

We may overcharge people, take more than we should, say we can’t when we can, say no just to spite others; but we do this all with God watching. This is us sinning against God.

We need to admit that we do get things wrong, ask God to forgive us and then try to not go back to doing that again. That is God’s will for us.

Proverbs 29:11 A fool vents all his feelings, But a wise man holds them back.

I often think of myself as a fool because I cannot keep a conversation going for too long; but then you get to meet some people who just have to get everything off their chest without thinking about the consequences of what they say!

There are times when we should talk about things and then there are times when we definitely do need to keep quiet. It is not all about us and what we think and want all the time. It is about how we interact with others and how we make them feel too.

It is no use being able to say all sorts of things if nothing that we say will build other people up – because we are then just breaking others down…

Proverbs 28:16 A ruler who lacks understanding is a great oppressor, But he who hates covetousness will prolong his days.

We may look at some of the world leaders and wonder how they can be so evil or such great oppressors; we then blame various things like their lack of judgment or greed. But what about us?

Each one of us are leaders in one way or another because others look at us and may want to copy what we do. That gives us responsibility. If we lack understanding, or show greed, or whatever, then we are giving that example to others to follow.

Instead of looking at the world leaders we don’t like, let us look at our own example toward others and improve that first of all.

Proverbs 26:5 Answer a fool according to his folly, or he will be wise in his own eyes.

Does this seem to be the exact opposite of yesterday? Think it through. God wants us to not cause strife, but He also wants us to show people when they are in contempt of God’s Word.

The difference between these two verses is how they end. The first to not be like a fool and get drawn into strife, but this to stop a fool from burying themselves in misunderstandings.

Trying to understand when someone is actually wrong and when they are just telling lies can be difficult. Get to know them first and you will have a better understanding of how they live their lives.

Proverbs 26:4 Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you yourself will be just like him.

There are times when answering someone who is causing trouble will only lead to more trouble. Sometimes people are just out to cause trouble for the sake of it and the best way of diffusing that situation is to keep quiet or ignore them.

It is sometimes difficult to know when to answer and when to keep quiet, but if you will ask yourself what you think God would do in this instance before answering, you will have a better chance at doing the right thing!

God wants us to live peacefully with others, not to live under the threat of war all the time…

Psalm 14:1 The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good.

So how many things have you got planned today? Or have you already had pranks played on you? We look at this day as a day of pranks so we can call someone a fool…

Every second of every day God continues to have to put up with people thinking that He is not real or even doubting Him and His ways. Every day He can call all of us fools because of what we have done.

And yet, every day God is willing to forgive and forget those who are willing to place their faith and trust in Him. Will you, today?

Matthew 21:22 And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.

Just as it is impossible for some to believe that Christ rose from the dead, many will not believe that our prayers will be answered if we fully trust in Christ.

We must trust in the whole Gospel and not just the parts that we think are easy to believe. We must trust God, Christ and the Holy Spirit because they will always act together as one; that is the essence of our faith, that God is always true.

Christ has achieved the impossible so that we can beat the impossible and live the impossible with Him. So why doubt that He can answer the impossible?

James 1:6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.

This weekend is remembered by Christians as a very special weekend that Christ laid down His life for us. We do not know the full details of everything that happened but we have enough proof that Christ was our perfect sacrifice.

Because of that knowledge we can come to God in faith knowing that He is now listening to our prayers and answering them too. We do not have to doubt because we have so much proof written down in our bibles.

When we start doubting we are nothing more than something being blown about by other forces like the wind. Let us stand firm in God.

Hebrews 10:22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

When we do come to God in prayer we have to make sure that we come to Him with a pure and open heart because it is into that heart that God looks; not in absolute fear but with the full assurance that God is listening and will answer prayers.

We do not have to have a guilty conscience because Christ has paid for our sin debt already; and as long as that is what we are trusting in (in full assurance) then we have a glorious knowledge that God hears everything.

Christ did all that He has done to make sure we can approach Him in prayer at any time so lift up your prayers today for all that He has done!

1 Timothy 2:8 Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing.

When we lift up our prayers to God it should not be as a show of pride or any other outward show of emotion; rather it should be an honest and humble request from us directly to God from our hearts.

Religious people may well do their prayers as a matter of course, but God wants us to lift up our prayers as a one to one talk coming from our hearts because He wants to answer according to our needs.

Above all we need to come to Him with the right attitude and certainly not in anger, blaming Him for things in our lives. God is fair and just. We need to accept His will for our lives because He does know what is best for us.

Hebrews 12:12 Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees

Are you ready and willing to pray to God when required? Are you brave enough to say “yes I will pray”? Are you committed enough to pray for others when they need it?

God would like us to be able to be free enough to come to Him in prayer at any time of the day or night, whether someone is in dire need or not. God wants a personal relationship with us that goes beyond “a friend in need”.

We need to be encouraged in prayer always and to do so freely whenever we want to and certainly not to be held back just because the world think we should be busy with something else!

Psalm 55:16 As for me, I will call upon God, And the Lord shall save me.

People will look to all sorts of thing to try and keep themselves happy or to pull them out of holes when things have gone pear shaped. The more things we try the more we seem to want to search for to find the best solution.

Aiming for the very best to start with would seem obvious until you ask people what is best; many will still be searching.

King David found the best early on in life and continually aimed at getting things right with God. We should be too because it is God who has given us this all to start with.

Colossians 4:2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

Prayer is an important part of our lives because it is how we make knows our hope to God. If we silently thought about things without openly talking to God we would forget what we asked for and in turn not see how He is answering our prayers.

Prayers are just as important to us because it is how we can remember our hopes and dreams.

Focusing on prayer each and every day will allow us to see how God answers our prayers but also the act of prayer focuses our minds on what we should be asking for.

Being thankful whilst asking for things shows that we do have hope that our prayers will be answered.

Romans 12:12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

We can be so joyful in the hope that God gives us that we may find that when we lose sight of that hope we feel even worse that before we knew that hope.

This is because the hope that we have in God is more precious than anything else we had before we knew Him. So when we do face tough times we have to be patient to wait for God to show us the way forward.

Lifting up our prayers at all times will allow us to be aware of what God has in store for us, feeding our hope and filling us with joy again.
