Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Our bibles tell us of the glorious hope that we have in God just because we believe His promises. But it is a hope that will not be fulfilled if we do not come forward and receive that hope.
God wants us to know the joy and peace that comes from having that hope. When we are placed in a hopeless situation we will find great relief when we are given a little hope.
God gives us a sure hope that will bring more joy and peace than any other hope; and He wants us all to know it.

Psalm 67:4 May the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples with equity and guide the nations of the earth.
We have every reason to be glad and sing for joy because of what God has done for us. Not just today but for thousands of years God has been looking after man and making sure that He blesses us when we are faithful to Him.
The more faith and trust we are willing to place into God’s hands the more we will see just how much He is willing and able to do for us. There is no limit on what He can do, the limits are imposed by us not allowing Him to do things in our lives.
If we run the other way we will not get the love and support that He is waiting to shower on us.

Acts 19:15 And the evil spirit answered and said, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?”
There are going to be some pretty formidable looking people that may say that they come to preach about God in our lives, but if they do not truly trust and believe in Jesus Christ themselves then they are nothing.
These evil spirits answered back at people like them and even overcame them instead of running in the other direction. But with God on our side when we place our faith and trust in Jesus, we will never have to fear being overcome by evil.
We will still face it time to time, but Jesus has already won the battle for us; if we trust in Him…

Malachi 1:8 When you offer blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? When you sacrifice lame or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you?’ says the Lord Almighty.
Back in the times when the people of Israel had to offer animals as sacrifices, typically they would have to find a sheep with no marks or anything else wrong with it to be a perfect sacrifice. Jesus became our perfect sacrifice when He offered Himself on the cross for us.
Are we then to offer Him substandard worship or respect? Are we then to keep back the best and give Him second best? Would you buy the second best for your partner if you could afford the best?
God wants us to be willing to do our best for Him at all times because He is our best friend.

Jeremiah 14:10 This is what the Lord says about this people: ‘They greatly love to wander; they do not restrain their feet. So the Lord does not accept them; he will now remember their wickedness and punish them for their sins.’
There is always a limit beyond which there is no hope; we just don’t seem to see where that limit is at times. I see this in myself as well as in others so I know that it is not just me having a difficult time.
God saw this time and time again in His chosen people and had to put His foot down on more than one occasion. We too have to put our foot down when we are confronted by things that push us too far, things that are against God’s will.
But it is God’s judgement that they need to fear because our recourse is only earthly, but His is eternal.

Proverbs 1:15 my son, do not go along with them, do not set foot on their paths;
It is so easy to experiment with things, take a drink too far, walk on ice, balance on the edge… but as soon as you fall you know that you should not have done that! And it’s too late!
It is so easy to give in to any temptation – that is why it is called temptation; we are tempted to give it a go knowing that we should not be – and we fail!
God does not want us to “give it a go” but to separate ourselves from those evil ways and to walk with Him instead. Yes it may be hard to continue walking with God, but the rewards are without comparison!

Psalm 119:101 I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word.
Have you ever thought that if you read enough of your bible you would not sin? Well, that is one way of looking at things but this verse opens up another thought…
If you try to not get involved with sin and evil ways then you will find it a lot easier to be able to read God’s Word and to then obey what it has written within.
God wants us to try to avoid sinful ways so that we will not be tempted to go against His Word; giving us a better chance at understanding it and then applying it into our lives. We do have to try first of all, we cannot expect God do what we can’t be bothered with!

Psalm 119:99 I have more understanding than all my teachers, For Your testimonies are my meditation.
It is not going to be too often that we are able to say that we have more understanding than our teachers in a subject but there may well be a time when you can.
This is not to say that you should put your teacher down because you think you know best! They are the teachers and they have studied to get to that position. If you study harder than they did then you may well get to that stage. So study!
God wants us to study His Word so that we can know what actually happened and what He has promised. Don’t just believe what others say, find out the truth for yourself.

1 Corinthians 14:20 Brothers and sisters, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults.
What do you do when someone tells you to grow up or even if they say you acting like an old person? Depending on what it is about it could be a compliment or a rebuke.
Sometimes we do need to stop acting like children and take responsibility for what we do and say; that is when people tell us to grow up. That is the responsibility and respectful position Christ wants us to have.
And other times we have to go back to the innocence that little children display, that innocence that Christ wants us to display because it shows no evil.

Ephesians 4:14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.
As a young child in amongst grown-ups we may feel like we are tossed about like a cork on the waves. As a new Christian we often find we feel the same amongst so many people who say they are righteous – but unless they are upholding God’s Word, then they are not what we should be concerned about.
God warns us that there will be many people saying they are Christians but gives us our bibles so that we can compare what they say against what He has said.
Believe your bible first of all!

Ephesians 6:11 Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
When we have accepted Christ into our lives we cannot just sit back and do nothing; we should be moving forward and telling others of our great Saviour.
But as we go forward we will come up against people and things that will discourage us, ignore us, fight against us and even try and stop us. This is the world that belongs to the Devil; one that we are surrounded by all the time.
That is why we need God’s strength and protection and that is why God has promised it to us when we trust in Him.

Matthew 10:32 ‘Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.
One of the great things about having eye-witnesses is that we get to hear what actually happened and what was actually said when Jesus walked here on earth as a man.
Jesus’ promise to us is that if we confess, acknowledge or admit to others that He is the Son of God, then He is going to acknowledge to God in heaven that He knows us personally.
This is His promise of eternal safety for us once we believe on Him and ask Him into our lives. It is not just something He said but a personal promise to each one of us who are willing to call Him our Lord and Saviour.

Romans 10:9 if you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
You know, it doesn’t take a lot to believe in Jesus. I mean, we have so much given to us so that we can believe. In fact we have everything that we need; we just have to take that step forward.
This verse tells us that we need to declare with our own mouths that Jesus is Lord. I cannot say it for you, you must say it for yourself.
God wants each of us to have a personal relationship with Him and that starts with us taking that first step of saying it with our mouths. God wants to be in our lives, but we must invite Him in by admitting to the truth.

Titus 1:2 in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began,
God promised us eternal life right from the beginning. He designed everything for us so that we could know Him and trust in Him. He has given us every reason to believe His promises; promises that have been the same from the beginning.
We have God’s Word.
Our hope is based on faith, trusting that God’s Word is one big promise. So far the promise has stood firm and we have been able to count on it every day. Let us continue to hope in God because He cannot lie…

Psalm 100:5 For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.
Jesus is described as being our Good Shepherd because a good shepherd will continue to look after their flock no matter what happens.
Jesus loves us and wants to take care of us. In order to allow Him to do that we do have to submit to Him so that He can care for us.
We have thousands of years of proof that God continues to care for us and have mercy on us. How much more proof do we need that He is our Lord and Saviour who cares!

Nahum 1:7 The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him,
One thing we can learn from the past is who we can trust. If someone is always there for you then you get to trust them and even depend on them.
When we need someone to turn to we will most likely turn to one of those people that have been there for us in the past because we know we can count on them.
God has been here for us from the beginning and will continue to be a refuge and a tower of strength we can count on always.

John 13:3 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God;
If you knew that you were going to be given a million dollars, would you go out and continue to work or would you give up and just wait for the money?
That’s probably a hard question for some of us to answer but one that never crossed Jesus’ mind. He did not sit back and say that everything was going to be fine later on; instead He went to work continually while He was here on earth.
Jesus continued to serve others, and in this instance He knelt down and washed the disciples’ feet. Our Lord, our Master, our King, our Saviour…

Philippians 2:8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled himself by becoming obedient to death – even death on a cross!
How far would you be willing to go to display your love for someone? I am not talking about lust or desire but love, an emotion that runs far deeper than our earthly desires?
Would you display your message of love for all the world to see, openly and permanently? If you would not go that far then is it actually love?
Jesus was willing to take on all the blame for every single one of us, place it firmly on His own shoulders, and die with it there so that we would not have to pay that terrible price. What love!

Philippians 2:7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
It is so amazing when you actually think about what God did for you and I. He came down from His place in heaven, to this world that is full of wars, sin, strife and evil, to be like a servant and to top it all He had to be in the form of a human.
This is God we are talking about. All powerful, all seeing, all knowing God, reducing Himself in part to just one human being so that He could display His love for you and me!
And we think we have problems when we see the lives that we live, much of which is that way because we have made bad choices in our lives, God chose to love you. Respect that!

Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to feel sympathy for our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet he did not sin.
Jesus was a man, a human man, and yet because He is the Son of God He is also unique. We think of Christ as being God and not having to face problems; but just like any human, He was faced with many problems and temptations.
The difference between Him and us is that He never gave in to any temptation. He continued to do what God wanted at all times.
It may be hard trying to do what God wants when everyone else has given in to the world, but we must try… Don’t give in just because your friends did. You are unique as well!
