1 Peter 1:9 receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
This is one of those verses that brings it all back together for me. I keep my faith so that I can know my soul is saved eternally.
When someone asks me why I believe in God I tell them that it is the truth and better than any theory man can make up. When someone asks me why I have such faith it is because I have learned to trust in Christ for everything.
This does not mean I get it right all the time and neither that I am perfect in any way; just that I firmly believe that Christ has saved me eternally. That is the end of my faith!

John 14:1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.
Jesus knew how much He was up against because He could see in the hearts of His chosen people. He could see that they had this belief in God because of all the things that had happened in the past, but they did not want to believe in Him.
For us to place our faith and trust in Jesus means that we have to not just believe in Him but we have to listen to what He teaches us. That is also going to mean that we need to turn our backs on the world and actually listen to His instruction daily.

John 11:25 Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;
When Jesus said these words it was a perfect description of His omniscience and His omnipotence giving us the knowledge that we need to believe in Him after many years have passed.
Jesus chose His words carefully not just for the people around Him but for every person that is going to hear His words for many years to come.
We have these words so that we may believe in Him and hence have the eternal life that He promises each one of us. What a Saviour!

Revelation 1:18 I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.
As the future was revealed to John he began to see just how important Jesus was, not just to him but to the whole world, past, present and future!
Jesus was not only a man who walked on this earth for some 33 years, but is, was and forever will be the Son of God. He also lives forever more after being raised from the dead after paying for our sins through His death and burial.
And now He has the sole right to judge us according to His righteousness!

2 Corinthians 4:10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.
Just like Jesus went through many things to make sure that we would have eternal life through the forgiveness of our sins, we too will probably have to face many trials in order to show others how special Christ is.
We must be prepared to go through sufferings, though they will be nothing compared to what Christ faced, so that we will better understand just how much He did for us.
The more we understand the more we will be able to show others that there is no one like Jesus, our Saviour, through what we do for them.

2 Corinthians 4:8 We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
No matter where we go in this world we will always have to face some sort of trouble and strife. This is all man’s doing and not God’s doing.
Every hour we should expect some sort of tribulation or struggle because the more that we walk with Christ the more that the evil one is going to try and trip us up or distract us.
It does not matter how much He throws at us because we remain firm in the knowledge that we are in God’s own hands and that nothing Satan can do will destroy anything other than our worldly possessions.

1 Corinthians 13:4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;
One of the things we get to learn when we walk with God is that His love for us not only knows no bounds but is so very special in all its ways.
If we go around boasting of our love for others then we may well be more proud of our love than our love is strong! We may well not be in love as much as we think we are!
I have learned the hard way that love should be without question and without limit, just as Christ’s love for us is total and pure. We need to make sure our love is pure before we pursue a relationship!

Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
It is not the fact that God is everywhere that should be the encouraging thought here but the fact that God is with us; in a very special and personal way, God is with us to guide and keep us.
The Lord has made things the way they are. Man has corrupted so much and we get down because we think everything is falling apart. Not so! We are breaking things, but God continues to maintain things.
God strengthens us and keeps us so we can bear the sorrows that we have caused in our own lives. He is almighty, trust Him!

Matthew 28:20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
I like the way that Matthew ended his epistle with these words that Christ had told them; to go out into all the nations and teach people about Jesus.
It is not how much we know that should dictate if we go out and teach people. It is the fact that Jesus has asked us to do this. If we don’t know anything other than how Jesus saved us then let us tell others of that single fact.
Give everyone else the same chance as you have had to know Jesus Christ otherwise you are excluding them from getting to know your Saviour too.

Mark 13:10 And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations.
When Christ began to tell the disciples of what was going to come, the tribulations and many other things He wanted them to know that the most important thing to start with was that the Gospel was preached to all nations.
No matter how close we get to the time when Christ is going to come back to earth we must always be focusing on the fact that the Gospel must first be preached to all the nations.
That means telling others of Jesus Christ first of all. That means not getting caught up in when the world will end but rather telling them of Jesus first of all. Nothing is more important than knowing about Jesus.

Mark 14:7 The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me.
How much do you really do for God? I’m not talking about all the things that you do because it makes you feel good or because that is what is expected of you, but the things that God calls you to do and you go out and do them no matter what!
It is easy to do charitable things and not care for yourself, but doing things that God wants you do to has got to start with the assumption that you are listening to God in the first place.
How many times have you not done something your parents have asked of you? You know you are ignoring them. So do they. So does God know…

Acts 3:6 Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”
When we look at a statement like this we may think of various things. We could think of the glory that Peter must have got for doing this, or the love he must have had for them, or the way people must have thought well of him.
But when we read through the verse and see what Peter was doing we begin to realise just how much faith he had in Christ!
Peter was not looking for gratification or glory. Peter was showing others what Christ could do for them if they trusted Him the same as they were trusting Peter. Peter’s trust was firmly in Christ’s hands.

Acts 4:30 by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.”
I don’t know if you have had to go to the doctors recently but much of the time they are only able to guess at what could be wrong and possibly give you something to lessen the discomfort but not to totally heal you.
But these men were being given the power to go forward and to heal people just because they were doing it in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of God!
Our God is a God of miracles and a God of the living, not a god who needs your money or you send the dead to…

Daniel 3:29 Therefore I make a decree that any people, nation, or language which speaks anything amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made an ash heap; because there is no other God who can deliver like this.”
I don’t know what the hottest place is that you have seen or even been in. I can think of some pretty hot days I have experienced in Africa but nothing will ever get close to the heat that was belching out of this furnace on this day.
The guards who tossed the three men into the furnace were consumed by the fire as the stood close to it; and yet God made sure that they were not touched even by the smell of the fire!
God is awesome! Sometimes we just need to be reminded!

John 19:30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
How long will you continue to do things for God? How long will you continue to try to uphold God’s Law? What do you use as a benchmark for what you should do?
So many questions but by reading our bibles we can clearly see what the answer should be as Jesus has given us the ultimate example of what we need to aim for.
Christ continued to do everything that had to be done right up until the last item on the agenda had been completed, then He said “It is finished!” and laid down His life there and then.

John 4:34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.
Is Jesus your example or do you just see Him as your Lord? Christ came down to earth to live and die as a man so that he could be a fuller example for us.
In His ministry He gave us many examples of how we should live and reminded us that we do need to live for God and not for ourselves. It is God who should be getting all the glory and not us.
Jesus came to do and follow the will of God the Father because that is what God had planned from the beginning; trying to go against God’s will is just not going to work – working with God will always work!

John 15:10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.
Though our salvation does not rely on us being able to keep God’s commandments it is of great importance to us that we aim to do so to ensure that they are observed by us.
If we simply ignored them because we are saved by His grace then we make them of no affect; but by keeping them we bring them to our minds and hearts every day, bringing Christ closer to our hearts as we do.
God wants to show us His love and when we walk closer with Him by observing His law we will find that He can do more for us as well.

Hebrews 5:8 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.
Even though Jesus was (and is) the Son of God and was always obedient to Him, He also showed that He was obedient to His own suffering and death on the cross.
It was well within His power to end the suffering, skip the death and still be with God in heaven, but He chose to not ignore all those terrible things and suffer them for our cause.
This was a voluntary step He took forward on our behalf to prove His love for us and to prove the Father’s love for us by giving us eternal hope, peace and life with Him. We are not exempt from suffering either!

Psalm 40:6 Sacrifice and offering you did not desire – but my ears you have opened; – burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require.
What surprised me when I first read it a long time ago was these words in the Old Testament. I had not thought of God’s requirements but rather what man had been doing for Him.
Because man had continued to sacrifice whether he had meant it or not the meaning had gone out of the sinless sacrifices being made all the time.
God has never required physical sacrifices but rather has asked for sacrifices from the heart that mean so much more. Jesus came as our sacrifice because of His great love for us. He wants us to show Him our love through our actions but from our hearts.

Psalm 62:11 God has spoken once, twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God.
Are there times when you keep hearing the same things over and over again; maybe you are thinking back to being a bit younger and your parents telling you things over and over again?
God’s Word has remained the same from the beginning and will remain the same right up until the end of time because it simply does not change. We change so we think everything else should…
God spoke His word once. We repeat it to each other and change a few things now and again, but that original word that we must always go back to has remained God’s Word. His power alone has kept His Word constant.
