Daniel 2:20 Daniel answered and said: “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, for wisdom and might are His.
When Daniel and his fellow servants were put in a very tight spot, God always came through for them and in this case revealed a dream and its interpretation to him in a dream.
Daniel’s response was to lift up the name of God first of all and acknowledge that all power and might are His and His alone.
Daniel knew that he was in the position he was because of God and His omnipotence; Daniel never had a big head over what he achieved because he knew it was God working through him and not anything he had done alone!

Matthew 14:9 And the king was sorry; nevertheless, because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he commanded it to be given to her.
How far are you willing to go just to make sure that you keep your word to someone else? Are you willing to break the law just to please a friend?
If we look back on our lives we will find many times when we have done something wrong just to please a friend; we have gone against God’s laws just to please a person.
God does not want us to spread lies but to spread the truth and that means holding on to that truth even when it comes down to being between a rock and a hard place. Obey God!

Genesis 2:17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.
God gives us instructions and with those instruction gives us consequences if we disobey them; He continues to uphold those instructions and those consequences no matter what we think!
When God gave this instruction to Adam it was not a story but a promise of what was going to happen. The serpent came along and persuaded Eve through temptation to ignore the consequences.
It was Adam and Eve who had to face the consequences of disobeying God because He gave that instruction to them.

Psalm 105:15 Saying, “Do not touch My anointed ones, and do My prophets no harm.”
When God makes promises we can be sure that He is going to keep them. We already have thousands of years of proof as we look back on the results of those promises kept.
We can study the promises as told to the people by the prophets and then see the results as told by those who followed on, written down and told by different people.
Our bibles are full of these truths so that we can be strengthened in the knowledge that God is looking after us here and now as well! This is not just a history lesson but a book of promises told, kept and still to come…

Matthew 18:3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
When we look deeper into passages like this by finding out what the original Greek text says we find so much more than what our English words can express.
We need to turn our backs on seeking the worldly grandeur and outward experiences of this world and go back to looking at what God has given us just as children would.
Children humbly accept what is given in faith and trust not concerning themselves with the grandeur but with the simpler things that mean more.
Seeking God? Well actually seek Him!

Luke 22:32 But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”
Satan will always attack at what he thinks is the weakest point; and most of the time that is going to be our faith…
Christ could see what the evil one was trying to do in Simon Peter’s life and issued him a warning here. We need to take heed of all warnings that Christ gives us so that we are ready for battle.
We cannot win the battles by ourselves, but we can rise up when we allow Christ to strengthen us and guide us; then we can walk proud with Christ and help to strengthen others!

Job 1:12 And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person.” So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.
Have you ever wondered at why God would allow Satan to do to Job all that he did do? Could you ever think of it as being out of love?
You may struggle to think how this could be done out of love, after all, Job was about to lose it all…
God was trying to show Satan that Job’s love could shine even brighter at times when we would think that our lights would go out. Trust in the Lord with all your might!

Matthew 21:32 For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.
It is not our position in life that is going to make the difference as to whether we get to heaven; it is our belief in Christ alone that will secure that hope.
We may think that we are better than others who were dreadful sinners, but unless we turn to Christ we are as guilty as them for the so called “minor sins” we have in our lives.
Our repentance and belief in Christ secures our passage to heaven and not our good works or charitable deeds; they come from believing not the other way round!

2 Timothy 2:25 Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth,
How many times have you just said what is on your mind or hit back at someone before they had time to even think what they had done to you?
We all get upset and retaliate before we have a chance to say what should be said instead of what is on the tips of our tongues! God does not want us to ignore what is wrong but to do what is right.
That may mean telling others that something is wrong kindly instead of starting an fight just because they are wrong. Try and think “What Would Jesus Do” before your strike out…

Matthew 13:15 For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.”
It is sad to see so many people turn their backs on God when something goes wrong in the world. It is sad to see so many people stay out of church because they think other things are more important.
Just like the people grew cold and far from God back then, people today are growing colder and further from God through their own choices.
God wants us to be close so that we can hear His Word, feed on His Word and accept His love.

Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.
There are so many times when we lift up our prayers and expect God to answer them no matter what. There are so many times when we turn round and blame God for what has happened in our lives.
But how many times do we examine our own lives and see if we are the reason why God cannot come closer to us? Sometimes we just need to sort ourselves out first of all so that we can draw closer.
I am not talking about saying sorry for the way you have been acting and then giving it to God and allowing Him to help sort things out.

Isaiah 59:1 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear.
Never think for one second that God does not have the power to destroy evil, take out Satan, remove sin and everything else this instant! It is His choice not to do this right now…
If God removed it all or left us to fend for ourselves after one last stand then we would be nothing. It is God alone that upholds the heavens so that we may continue to live on planet earth.
God always hears our prayers and always answers in the manner that is best for us. Let us trust Him and believe Him and wait with patience as He has asked.

Judges 6:13 Gideon said to Him, “O my lord, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.”
Gideon had just been called a mighty man of valour before he replied with these words. Yes he was brave and active in spirit and yet he still questioned things that happened. His faith had not yet been bolstered.
Too often we know that we too should be trusting and relying on God but we give in to the fears and we allow our lack of faith to rise up instead of fully trusting God.
It is God who has the ultimate knowledge about everything; we do need to step up and trust Him totally. We do not know His plans and we should not question them.

Deuteronomy 32:7 Remember the days of old; consider the generations long past. Ask your father and he will tell you, your elders, and they will explain to you.
We really do need to remember what God has done for us; not just us as in me, but us as in the whole human race!
We can think of all the wonderful things that He has created for us and how we would not be able to survive without His creation. What a God!
We can think of all the ways in which He has picked certain people throughout history to bring forward His Word faithfully. What a God!
We can think of all the ways in which He blesses us, His children. What a God!
Our God!

Psalm 105:5 Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,
When we being to wonder at what God can do for us we just need to go back and read our bibles… We have a full historical record of so many things that God has done for us.
All that is written is certainly not all that He did because there is just not enough space to write down everything that He has done – but all the records that we do have written have been written so that we can remember them.
Remembering these facts should encourage us to rely on Him more and to trust in everything that He has said and will still do. Never sell Him short!

Psalm 105:4 Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore!
When we speak of someone as being strong we often limit it to physical strength or emotional strength but God’s strength is without limit in all things making it a bit alien to our normal thinking.
We must never think of God as being limited in any manner because that is lowering Him from the position of being our God. In the time of King David the Ark was a symbol of that awesome power for the people to follow.
The Psalmist now encourages people not just to seek the power through the physical but also to seek a personal relationship with God to live with His power!

Psalm 9:10 And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.
God is both gracious and merciful; He will forgive any sin that is brought to Him in all honesty and faith. God’s love and mercy cannot be “out sinned” other than by unbelief itself.
We sometimes think that God may forsake us when we sin and walk away from Him but as soon as we turn around and face Him we find Him waiting patiently and lovingly for us!
As long as we are willing to seek Him with our hearts and not just in word, then we will always find Him because He is the one waiting for us to turn around so that He can wrap His arms around us once more.

Jeremiah 17:7 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord.
When we get to know God we get to know Him on a personal level because He wants to have a personal relationship with us. With that personal relationship comes a lot of love and support as only He can give us.
With that relationship comes a deep found hope in Him because of the promises that He shows us and keeps toward us. When verses like this say we have a hope in the Lord it is more than just a hope, it is a life!
God wants us to know Him personally so that we can experience that love first hand and not second or third hand as it gets handed down through the generations.

Romans 5:5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
A vain hope deceives us because the hope that we have will always be dashed and leave us wanting; but the hope that God gives us is certainly not vain!
He gives us a hope that allows us to love openly because of the love that He poured into us through the Holy Spirit. That love then can overflow from our hearts and to those around us giving us a firm knowledge that it is Christ who put it there.
We should never be ashamed of that love that He gave us to share with others!

2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Speaking to a friend tonight I was reminded of this verse which I really should be able to remember better than I do!
For many years God has been the one watching over me all the time, protecting me, guiding me and teaching me. He is the one who has given me a spirit within me that gives me the power to go forward, to love people openly and to be able to talk to them about the many ways that He works in my life.
I am not a great public speaker, nor a philosopher; but God allows me to teach others the gospel!
