Psalm 130:1 Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord;
Do we have to go up on top of a mountain to pray like Jesus did? No. Our prayers can be lifted up to Him wherever we are.
But not all places are ideal for prayer because of the noise and interruptions which surround us daily. Jesus knew the right spot where people would likely not follow Him.
Do you have a spot where you can take time out and go to talk with God, alone? Why not make a plan to spend more time each day with God, away from the crowd.

Matthew 14:23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone
How much time do you set aside to be alone with God? I know it is difficult in our world where we seem to be surrounded with all manner of things constantly going on and changing – but this is important.
Christ attempted to send the crowds away so He could spend some time alone with His Father; many of them waited for Him to come back, later shipping across to Capernaum…
Spending time alone with God not only draws us closer to Him, but separates our minds from the turmoil around us so we can focus on God.

Luke 6:12 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.
What do you do when you are going to make an important decision? Do you study things up and then make an informed choice, or do you include others in your choice?
Jesus gathered people up and they went to a mountain to pray, all night! This was the first and most important two steps made.
One, to gather people with Him and two to make sure God was in the choice, not as an aside but central and foremost in the discussion!
Make sure God is in everything you do so you have the best chance of making righteous and excellent decisions!

John 15:16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.
Christ’s words need to be thought about here – He did not choose Himself as Lord and King and then make slaves… He was and is forever and chose to love us first of all.
Out of that loves comes a willingness to teach us the truth and encourage us to do what is right; just as a good parent or teacher will try to do.
His love extended to us before we were told what to do – instead He encourages us to join in this fight for truth with Him by our sides.

1 John 4:10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
God’s love is here and now; past, present and future. God’s love is unmatched, free and actual!
It is not a love dependant on how we act and how we behave. It is not based on how much we give, talk or spread the gospel.
God’s love is full, unblemished and resilient to all things, making it the perfect love we need in our lives for all occasions.
And, He started it first. He will never end it and He will always uphold it. Join in His love!

Isaiah 64:4 Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.
None us know our future for certain. We cannot see into the future and know for a certain that things will happen the way we think. But God actually knows already!
God knows what is in stall for us no matter what choices we make in our lives. He knows what will happen when we plead with Him or when we ignore Him.
Wait on God and trust in Him; for He knows your future and wants what is best for you – we just need to listen out for His instructions.

Lamentations 3:25 The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him;
How often do you wait on the Lord? How often do you seek Him each day? How often do you read His Word? How often do you stop and wait for Him?
God wants us to know His power and might, and often that means we need to stop and wait for Him to do something in our lives.
Trust God. Trust He is listening. Trust in His promises. Trust He is answering. Trust and hope for a better future with Him.

Psalm 32:11 Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!
Have you ever been in a place where you have felt like you are surrounded by people telling lies?
I know I have been in at least one place where I was convinced most of the people around me were telling lies; but all trying to convince me and others they were telling the truth.
God sees right through such deception and does not like it. We don’t either when we find out the truth – so why do we, as a race, try to deceive people all the time?
Allow God’s truth to overflow your life!

Hebrews 10:22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.
When Christ called us to faith, it was not to have a half-hearted approach to something which may happen if we remember to ask for it!
God wants us to have a full faith in Him, from our heart and not just by word of mouth. God wants us to depend on our faith so we can demonstrate it fully to others.
I had a strange dream last night which reminded me of this – our faith has to be full and God will honour it!

1 Timothy 1:5 The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.
When Christ told us to love our neighbours as ourselves it was a commandment with meaning; we do need to love people but with a true heart!
God’s love for us is true and without reserve; our love for others should be based on the same principals. Just saying you love someone because God said so is not good enough!
Picking out the pretenders who say one thing and do another can be difficult, but that is what we join into when we do not love with an honest heart.

1 Corinthians 13:13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
These three are the principal graces of God around which so much blossoms; but as the apostle writes here, love is the greatest grace God gives us.
We have it in abundance and so need to be able to share it in abundance too; this means loving even in those difficult circumstances!
Without love, our faith would dwindle. Without Love, we would have no hope to hope for. It really does underpin our loves both spiritual and physical – so exercise it in everything we do!

1 Corinthians 13:7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love shows itself through thick and thin. Love continues beyond normal friendship. Love never fails to uphold and protect.
This is the love Christ demonstrated toward us and a love we should aim to duplicate and share with those around us.
God’s love was not limited to the people He chose but open for every single one of us to choose to accept.
God’s love has put up with so much from us, don’t ever doubt it!

1 Corinthians 13:4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
Love has repercussions! When you do love someone, you will show that love through the actions you do toward and for that person; not the other ways round!
We could do all sorts of things to try and show our love, but the true actions which come from the heart will always to on show for everyone to see.
God did not have to do things to prove His love for us. He chose to do things so we could benefit from the things He did. He showed His love for the whole world to see!

Romans 15:2 Each of us should please our neighbours for their good, to build them up.
How often do you go out of your way to do things for the people around you? How often do you put them first?
We live in a society where we are conditioned to look after ourselves first and foremost – this is not what God teaches us!
Yes we need to take care of ourselves, but to build up God’s kingdom we need to demonstrate His love for everyone around us and lift them up to better places so they can see Christ more clearly.

Ephesians 4:12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up
It is dangerous to quote a phrase from scripture without taking it in context – Christ has chosen people in our societies to be the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers – these are the people who spread the gospel in the churches.
But we are the people on the front line. We are the people living with others. We can reach so many more people.
Live out your life with Christ. Show people they mean a lot to God. Share His love with everyone around! You have been equipped!

Philippians 1:6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Who was it who convinced you to trust in Christ? Think about it before you answer.
Christ gives us amazing people who can verbalise what most of us would like to say but cannot find the words to do; but those people are simply servants of God who come to share their feelings and knowledge.
The Holy Spirit changes people’s hearts as they hear the gospel message; we share it and pass on our bit, but it is the Holy Spirit who makes those changes.
Thank you Jesus for leaving us the Holy Spirit!

Hebrews 6:9 Even though we speak like this, dear friends, we are convinced of better things in your case—the things that have to do with salvation.
Sometimes God’s Word seems to be too harsh for us to agree with! But it is the truth and it is always right. God is always striving to have the gospel spread to all people and He wants us to support Him all the way!
We know, through our bibles, there are much better things coming in our future. We may feel like we are drowning in the mire, but we know the future holds eternal life.
Living with Christ is a very positive experience because He continues to support us in all walks of life. What a Saviour. What an amazing God we have!

Hebrews 6:8 But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.
What do you do to land which continues to give weeds and thorns instead of vegetables and other crops? You work it. You may even burn it first!
Something harsh has to be done in order to rid land of bushes, thorns, bristles and the like; are you still trying to live in amongst the thorns?
When we live in the thorns we are most likely to be covered by them or strangled by them, so we need to have God’s constant support to survive.

Ezekiel 47:11 But the swamps and marshes will not become fresh; they will be left for salt.
Do you get discouraged that the world continues to be ‘so worldly’?
God did not say He would come to earth and clean everyone so they can all go to heaven no matter what! He came to try and save the world by bringing life into the world.
You can pour clean water into a dirty place and it may even cleanse the area in which you pour it, but it has to be worked in order for the cleansing of the whole area to happen…
Worked by the people there, receiving the living water and using it to help spread the cleanliness.

Ezekiel 47:10 Fishermen will stand along the shore; from En Gedi to En Eglaim there will be places for spreading nets. The fish will be of many kinds—like the fish of the Mediterranean Sea.
Ever wondered why Jesus chose the river He did to find the fishermen He did? How about looking back into the Old Testament where God made His promises through the prophets!
Jesus’ ministry was within the bounds of the places laid down in the Old testament by the prophets. Those were God’s people telling the locals about what was to come in the future.
God is the one who goes forward in the beginning and prepares a place for us to work in. God chooses what goes on and fills the jobs with people who are willing to listen to Him.
