John 8:45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me.

How many times have you asked someone “why don’t you believe me?”

Sometimes the truth seems to be more than we can cope with and we would rather continue believing a lie because it is easier to do that. But that does not make the lie any closer to the truth; it is still a lie!

It is hard to turn round and tell the truth after you have hidden behind a lie for a while but the truth does have to come out. God already knows the truth, He just wants you to admit it. You are the only one who can admit it, others can tell of it, but you must admit it personally.

John 5:40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.

What use would it be to look at the instructions to build something but ignore them and do it your own way instead? What use would it be to look up verses but just ignore them?

God has given us the bible so that we will know what we should be doing, but unless we do it we have not done anything. God wants us to come to Him so that He can give us what He has promised. As it says in the first verse I memorised, God wants to give us eternal life, but we must take the first step and come to Him and believe in Him.

Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

We are certainly not alone! When we finally admit that we have done something wrong we begin to see how that affects others and also God. We are guilty of doing things wrong and all that we do does affect God.

It is no use trying to hide behind someone else or something else when we know that we are guilty. Admitting that we are guilty does take courage and strength and it does have to be done before we drown in our troubles. God is patiently waiting.

1 Samuel 15:22 Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.

One of the biggest differences between living now and living in the times before Jesus was born is the fact that men had to offer sacrifices for their sins. Could you imagine having to kill an innocent animal just so that something innocent could take your place?

God would much rather we obey Him than sin and have to have something or someone innocent pay for our sins…
Someone willing has already done that for you; they died for you…
