Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.

Just as the Apostles continued to show people how important it was to know what Jesus had done for us all; how He had given His own life in our stead so we could be freed from our debt for the sins we do.

No matter how many sacrifices we offer up to God, they are not going to be any better than the perfect sacrifice Jesus was for us.

This is why we owe everything to Christ and this is why we need to know the truth about Jesus.

Luke 24:45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.

If you want to learn about something, you need to listen to people who are willing to teach you about the subject.

Christ came, not to just be our Saviour, but to make sure people understood why He did this all.

Jesus spent His life learning and teaching, just as we should be trying to do.

God continually tries to teach us too – we need to stop and listen so we can learn!

Psalm 105:8 He remembers his covenant for ever, the promise he made, for a thousand generations

We may not be able to keep our promises all the time – and we then begin to think we should not make promises we cannot keep.

Christ, on the other hand, made a whole lot of promises and has been making sure every one of them comes to pass!

We can utterly rely on every promise Jesus made to us and treat every word He said as a promise for us now and in the future!

John 20:19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you!’

Can you imagine the uproar when Jesus entered the locked room without warning!

Not just because the disciples fear the soldiers coming to get them, but because they feared the priests doing something too!

When we think we have nowhere to turn to, Christ can come into our lives and remind us He has things under control!

Trust Christ and allow Him free access in your life, always!

Psalm 16:8 I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

Have you ever watched a blind person get led around by a guide dog? They trust that dog to guide them round obstacles and keep them away from danger.

If we were more like a blind person, depending on a guide, and less like a seeing person telling the dog where to go, we may just stay out of trouble!

God is trying to guide us through the Holy Spirit. If we are willing to listen to Him and depend on Him to keep us safe – just maybe we will succeed more often!

John 20:2 So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, ‘They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!’

It’s OK to not understand just how much Jesus has done for you. It’s OK to not get how much He loves you. It’s OK to have doubts!

When the ladies had seen the empty tomb, Mary ran back to tell Simon Peter – she thought they had stolen the body!

We now know Christ rose from the dead because they disciples and many people saw Him afterward.

Accepting there can be miracles is a first step!

John 19:38 Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away.

Joseph was a “secret Christian” just like many people in the world today – secretly worshipping Christ because of the fear they have for the world leaders.

Jesus looks what is in our hearts and not what happens in the world. If we are willing in our hearts – Christ is willing!

Joseph and Nicodemus together gave Jesus a right and proper burial according to Jewish customs. They did this as their final act of obedience because the world could no longer hurt their king...

John 19:15 But they shouted, ‘Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!’ ‘Shall I crucify your king?’ Pilate asked. ‘We have no king but Caesar,’ the chief priests answered.

Who do you uphold as the king in your life? Do you care more for sports than religion? Do you care more for money than the poor?

We all have our failings in many aspects in life, some of which pull us away from God in many ways.

What we hold dearest in our lives will always make it to the top instead of what should be at the top.

Why not try giving Jesus that top spot for a while and see how your life changes!

1 Corinthians 11:25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

Easter is a time of great sorrow, but also great blessing and happiness.

How often do you get carried away with all the modern world celebrations and forget about the simple things God has given us to live by?

When you sit down to eat and drink next, think about what Jesus came to do for you...

He did this all even though He knew what was coming...

John 13:21 After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, “Very truly I tell you, one of you is going to betray me.”

Just because you trip up and fall, does not mean you have lost the race...

God knew we would trip and fall at many stages in our lives, so He allowed Christ to come to earth and take on the punishment for our sins once and for all.

He did this because of His love for us, even before we said sorry and before we knew Him!

Just because you failed at one stage, does not mean you have failed everything. Christ won the race for us!

John 12:27 Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? “Father, save me from this hour”? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour.

Jesus did not shirk His responsibility – even though He knew what it would mean and of the harsh treatment and punishment He would have to endure!

Sometimes we like to ‘change the rules’ so we don’t have to face troubles of hard times... but sometimes we do have to face up to the hard times in order to grow stronger and wiser.

God wants us to know, however, He is with us every step of the way!

Hebrews 9:11 But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that are now already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation.

Christ put an end to our need for trying to find goats, calves or anything else good enough to offer as a sacrifice for our sins.

Christ gave Himself as our perfect and final sacrifice for all of our sins.

We need to embrace what Christ has done with open arms and share this truth with everyone around us.

Don’t judge people, embrace people and walk with God!

March 28: Mark 11:1-11

Key Verse: Mark 11:8
Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields.

Devotion:
When I got used to driving everywhere instead of walking, I used to read passages like this and wonder why people would walk such a long way to do anything – then I think back to a time when I went to play golf in Zimbabwe where I lived back then. We caught a bus to the gold course, played our round of gold and then went back out to wait for the next bus home... unfortunately that was the day the bus drivers went on strike! So we had to walk a long way back!

When we don’t have the means to drive anywhere we want, or to catch buses, we have to walk or not do things. The choice is ours. Jesus made the choice to come into Jerusalem close to 2000 years ago. A difficult choice to be made, not just because they had to walk a long way, but because Jesus knew what was going to happen after He entered Jerusalem!

God made the choice for this all to happen because of His great love for the human race. God allowed Jesus to step forward and become our Saviour once and for all; to suffer for our sins, to die on the cross, to be the pure, living sacrifice we needed to cover our sins; He did this with humility and mercy!

As we remember all Jesus has started in this most Holy Week in our Christian calendar, let us try to walk our lives giving glory to Christ for what He did. Let us think about the things in our lives which made this a requirement! Let us remember we have been fully forgiven by God because of what Jesus has done those many years ago!

Points to Ponder:
Do you know what Jesus did for you?

Will you try to live your life remembering why He did this?

Psalms 118:1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures for ever.

From the very beginning when God created everything for us, through our lives and to the future, God shows us His love.

A love which we may find incomprehensible because of what Jesus had to do to prove it to us...

A love which has lasted throughout all of time...

This is the love God has for us and the mercy He continues to show us every day. Embrace it fully!

Ezekiel 37:10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet – a vast army.

Does what God ask for frighten you? Does it fill you with dread?

Sometimes when God asks us to step forward and do something, we are filled with dread because we cannot see how it is going to be possible.

But, with God, everything is possible. Ezekiel stood before a pile of bones. God brought them together and brought them to life because Ezekiel obeyed God; not because Ezekiel was strong and powerful, but because God is strong and mighty!

Jeremiah 20:13 Sing to the Lord! Give praise to the Lord! He rescues the life of the needy from the hands of the wicked.

I am truly thankful we worship a God who looks out for the poor and needy and supports them in many ways.

God will call on us to step forward and to help His children when they are in need.

We need to step forward and to answer His call so His people, our family, can be helped in the best possible way.

Luke 1:25 ‘The Lord has done this for me,’ she said. ‘In these days he has shown his favour and taken away my disgrace among the people.’

It is not nice to have anyone look down on you for something you have done wrong – worse still when it affects your family too.

When Jesus came into the world in Human form – it was not with all the pomp and ceremony we expect of a king coming into town but surrounded by doubt and even shame.

God wanted us to see we are going to be accepted by Him no matter where in life we are or how bad we think our lives are.

It is our personal relationship with Him which counts!

John 8:40 As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things.

Far too often in our lives we get so caught up in the world we do not see things as God sees them – we lose focus on the truth!

God continues to try and open the world up for us to worship Him in and to give this freedom to many more people – we tend to hide things and shut down what we don’t like instead.

Be careful of what you are aiming for in your life – think about what God would like you to focus on and follow His lead instead!

Numbers 21:5 they spoke against God and against Moses, and said, ‘Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!’

Don’t get too comfortable with all the things God allows into your life!

I know we, as Christians, continue to tell people how much God can do for them, but we should take note of human ways...

We do take things for granted once we get comfortable with them. We do grow dependant on things we don’t necessarily need in our lives.

Always be aware of how much God does for you and thank Him every day to remind yourself of how much He does!

John 8:16 But if I do judge, my decisions are true, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me.

We all like to think we are right and even fight for what we believe to be right! But, are we justified in doing so?

Jesus was confronted by the Pharisees because He dared to say He was right! They immediately said He did not have the right to call Himself righteous.

Jesus has God the Father and God the Holy Spirit backing Him every step of the way! He has witnesses!
