Luke 6:27 But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you
Jesus wanted to make sure the disciples had no pre-conceived ideas about who was worthy to enter God’s Kingdom.
To this extent He persuaded them to love their enemies, bless those who mistreated them and to give more than people wanted to take!
These are hard commands to follow when we face evil enemies, bad people and those who seem hell-bent on mistreating us.
God is asking you to do this for Him, so they can know God’s grace.

Mark 8:33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
Can you imagine Jesus turning round and calling you a bad name!
For Jesus to speak up like this meant He was getting quite upset by what the people were doing, especially Peter!
Christ came to save us all from our sins and was willing to lay down His life for us all. It is our lack of belief or faith which will stop us from taking this promise and making it our own.
Just take God’s Word for what it is – the simple truth – and believe it!

What do you use as your ‘benchmark’ to measure your life against others?
Yes, that’s a loaded question because the answer is “don’t compare yourself to others!”
We simply need to see what God would want us to do in our lives and to act accordingly – seeking His will and His favour at all times!

Isaiah 40:1 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.
God continues to give us messages through messengers in our lives. He continues to try and show us the right path to follow in life.
Part of that is to share the love and mercy He has shown us with the people around us.
We may think they don’t deserve it, but we are limited in what we see.
God wants us to be more like Jesus and to show the people around us the love of God in everything we do!

Psalm 138:1 I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; before the “gods” I will sing your praise.
How far are you willing to go to show others whom your God is?
Are you willing to show other gods who God is? Will you stand up for God in front of businesspeople or royal households?
God wants you to be willing to always show others, no matter what position in society, that you praise the one true God, and Him alone.
Yes, God is a jealous God. Show Him your praise and worship Him alone.

Philippians 3:14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Even though Paul is seen as an amazing apostle who went out to bring the gospel to so many people outside of the Israelite community, he was still humble of His calling.
He knew he was nothing without God. He knew God was everything to him. He knew he had to listen to and obey God.
If we are willing to take a leaf from Paul’s page and follow what Christ is teaching and calling us to do – we will go far and we will allow others to get to know Christ personally!
Give God the glory!

Isaiah 55:8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.
How many times have you rejected something just because you could not understand how it could be done or because it sounded too good to be true?
God is not limited by our thought or our abilities – He can and does do anything, everywhere!
Even though we have bad thoughts – no matter how good we are – God does not! He continues to be perfect and continues to love us no matter what happens in our lives!

Mark 1:9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.
When Jesus came to be our King, He could quite easily have levelled all the horrible things in life and made it a second garden of Eden... but He didn’t!
He stepped forward as an example for us all, accepting God as father of all, living according to God’s laws, obeying God, talking to Him continuously and even being baptised as a symbol of His devotion to God the Father!

How often do you complain to God because you think He has not noticed what you have done?
Far too often we get caught up in demanding responses from God for the things we are doing... does this mean we are doing things for God’s glory, or for our own desires?
It is a fine line we tread through our lives and one we have to keep ourselves in check from – we need to do things for and with God as He tries to guide us into the best positions in our lives.

Isaiah 58:1 Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet. Declare to my people their rebellion and to the descendants of Jacob their sins.
Jesus did not teach people to simply talk about God but to reach out to people and allow God to move in their lives.
God wants us to bring people closer to Christ so they will understand, themselves, how important it is to know Christ.
This is what it is to make disciples, not Christians. We need to get people to come and join in what God wants, not to just sit and listen!
So, shout all about it; but also encourage people to get down and do stuff with Christ themselves!

John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
When you ‘buy’ something and plan to pay it off over time or later, it is a good feeling when you are free from that debt.
We have a debt of life with God because of our sin; Jesus is willing to pay off that debt in full as soon as we ask Him to.
When we do that, we are free from the debt. We don’t have to worry about it. We don’t have it hanging over our heads. We are free!
And it’s an amazing feeling!

How many times have you been side-tracked today, where you set out to do something and got way-laid by something you liked instead of getting the job done?
We need to keep our desires in check and get God’s will in action instead.
What we do for God will count more than anything else we do on earth. No big company or millionaire will give you more than what God can give you.
God gives what you need for eternity!

Psalm 50:11 I know every bird in the mountains, and the insects in the fields are mine.
We no longer have to lay down sacrifices for God, to appease Him or pacify His anger against us... Jesus has done that!
When we consider the power of Jesus we can wonder why He would ever lay down His life in our stead...
The answer is simple – because He loved us so much, he was willing to lay down everything for us.
God knows everything in this world and nothing compares to the love of God!

Jesus was not always liked by everyone! When He stood up for the truth, many found it hard to listen to or to follow...
We tend to like what we have and not to go with change or hardships – even when God demands it!
God knows what is best for us and sometimes we will face hardships – but look toward eternity because we have a wonderful, amazing, beautiful place in Heaven by His side!

No matter how much we face here on earth – our real future awaits us in Heaven where we will not have to endure it anymore.

Nothing will stop us when we face Christ in Heaven other than denying Christ...

Isaiah 43:18 Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
One of the hardest things I find is forgetting about the bad things which happen to me. I tend to cling onto them like bad memories which don’t want to fade.
God wants us to move on from our bad experiences and use the outcomes to find new ways of doing things which will work for the good of all and for God’s glory.
Don’t dwell on the mistakes or uphill tasks, but focus on the goal set before us by the Holy Spirit and embrace what God gives us with both hands!

When the disciples came back to report what they had done, the people around them recognised who they were and started to flock around them...
When we do good things with God, people notice. What we do with that attention is paramount to our life with God!
Don’t get stuck up in self-glorification! We are nothing without God!
Give God the glory for everything He has allowed you to do!

Genesis 1:16 God made two great lights - the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.
Don’t limit God’s creation to what you can see and understand!
Allow your imagination to run wild for a minute or two and think of what could be on the planets around us and further out in the Milky Way!
Don’t limit what you think God can do when there is so much out there we cannot yet grasp or understand.
Bask in the impossible things God has for us yet to discover!

God loves all the little things we do which are righteous. God loves us because we do those little things.
Yes, we make big mistakes now and again, but coming back and starting those little things again make Him overjoyed.
