Daniel 2:46 Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell prostrate before Daniel and paid him honour and ordered that an offering and incense be presented to him.

What happens to you when someone praises you? Do you pump yourself up with pride and tell others of your ‘greatness’ or do you carry on and play things down?

The king thought there must be some divinity within Daniel because he had been able to do what nobody else could do.

But we know it was not Daniel who learned and interpreted the dream, it was God. Don’t ever try and take the praise due to God upon yourself. Give all praise to God and He will give you what is due to you!

Daniel 2:27 Daniel replied, “No wise man, enchanter, magician or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about…”

When God shows us the right way or steers us in the right direction, we need to acknowledge that it is God who is in control.

If we take ownership of the issue or we take responsibility for what has happened, then we need to answer for what may go wrong ahead.

Always give God the glory for everything He does – no matter whether you are in church or in amongst heathens. Make sure God gets the praise so others will know who can do all things!

I find it very hard to accept praise from anyone because I know God has given me up to this work I do for Him!

Daniel 2:23 I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors: You have given me wisdom and power, you have made known to me what we asked of you, you have made known to us the dream of the king.

When we do come to God and ask openly and honestly, we can expect Him to answer us.

It may not be how we expect to be answered and we may not make sense of things right away, but by listening to God, we will be able to know what is ahead for us.

God will always answer prayers; we just don’t see the answers always because we may well be looking at things in the wrong way.

Listening to God means listening for the problem as well as the solution – we may not know the proper starting point yet!

Daniel 2:2 So the king summoned the magicians, enchanters, sorcerers and astrologers to tell him what he had dreamed. When they came in and stood before the king,

Who do you call on when the going gets rough? Who are the people in your life who seem to know what they are doing?

If we reach out to the great pretenders all the time, then all we are going to get is pretend advice and results!

We need to reach out to the one who holds the truth, the one who stands for the truth and the one who keeps the truth. We need to reach out to the one who does know all things.

Don’t sell yourself short by asking advice from people when you can ask for it from God. Go on, try!

Daniel 1:20 In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.

How do you fare when your boss, teachers or parents start quizzing you about the things you should know about?

I used to go to pieces and could never answer stuff under pressure and you may well feel that way about the bible…

But if you are willing to pass on the task to someone who does know and listen to their answers before passing on the answers, then you will find things a whole lot easier.

God wants to help you in every way – allow Him to!

Daniel 1:15 At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food.

How many vegetarians have turned to you and used this as an excuse for not eating meat?

Daniel and his friends, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, were willing to follow God no matter what the cost. We probably know them as Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego who got put in the furnace!

God is not looking for vegetarians but for people who are willing to follow Him even if it costs them.

When we place our faith and trust in God, He rewards us in other ways!

Daniel 1:8 But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.

I think most of us would jump at the chance of eating like the rich and famous! But what does it do to you?

I’m not concerned with the physical because I tend to eat a lot of fast food; but more the spiritual side of eating.

When you eat, is it because someone else eats what you have or because you have a physical craving or because it’s what you should eat?

How about, because it gives glory to God?

Psalm 94:7 They say, “The Lord does not see; the God of Jacob takes no notice.”

When people do things wrong or against God, they like to think God will not hear or see them; because if they acknowledge the truth, they will have to do something about it!

God is all-seeing and all-hearing; there is nothing He misses in this world, despite our actions and thoughts to the contrary.

No matter how far into the past we go or how far into the future we look, God is already there and already knows what is going on.

Live with God. Live for God!

Mark 8:21 He said to them, “Do you still not understand?”

Jesus used many parables and similes when He talked about the Kingdom of God; doing so to try and allow people to understand His ways.

But if someone does not want to hear the truth, thinking they know it all, they will not understand what you say – because they are not listening!

If you want someone to know about Christ, don’t talk at them, talk with them and share your love for Christ.

Hebrews 5:11 We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand.

How do you treat ‘going to church?’ Is it a chore for you which you just have to do because the preacher says you must or do you go for some other reason?

When we start to do things in our Christian lives just because that is what is written down somewhere we have lost the reason for doing what we are doing!

Always keep the meaning of Christ in your heart and love Him before ‘doing church on Sunday!’

1 Corinthians 3:2 I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.

As babies, we get a lot of milk and not a lot of things like steak! There is a reason for this; our bodies cannot physically cope with the digestion of meat in the beginning.

When we first learn about Christ we need to learn the basics first. If we get a mouthful of theological debate, we will probably balk at the words and go back to what we had before.

Similarly, when we tell others about Christ, we have to choose our words so they understand. Learn to start at the beginning and teach from the beginning!

1 Corinthians 13:11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.

I can remember always wanting to be older as a child and now wanting to be younger as an adult! We all change. We grow up and we grow old.

What we take with us is what forms us and normally shows on the outside. If we take love with us, it will show on the outside and not just inside.

Each day, we should be taking in what we see and hear and learning from it; exposing yourself to more of Christ will help you in your spiritual journey and growth.

1 Samuel 3:8 A third time the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy.

How many times do we ignore the call of God just because we don’t understand where it is coming from?

How many times do we get involved and tell other people how they should hear from God?

It is a personal interaction between you and God; nobody else can tell you what to do other than to be still and listen to God.

So, try it, be still and listen out for God calling you!

Luke 17:28 It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building.

The world continues on doing stuff no matter what else happens. Nothing you do is going to stop the world from carrying on carrying on!

But God can stop things and God can re-start things! He is in control of this world we live in!

It is good to remember just who is the one in charge and to submit to Him, not just when we are in a tight spot, but always.

Live your life with the one in control and you may well find more thing happen the way they ought to rather than fall apart at the seams!

Job 22:15 Will you keep to the old path that the wicked have trod?

Our bibles lay down the wicked things people have done; not to highlight them but to show they come to no good!

God cannot ignore the evil because it stands for everything He does not like. He cannot abide evil!

Just because something is there does not mean we have to have a go and see what it is like. I know the temptation is there, but still, we don’t have to!

Learn from other people’s mistakes and you will not have to go through all the ‘hell’ they had to go through when they did things wrong!

2 Peter 2:5 if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;

God has had some pretty hard choices to make but has always done the right thing; some people may choose to disagree!

We tend to try and ignore difficult choices just so we can have an easier life, but things tend to go wrong and those bad choices catch up with us.

God is just and faithful, always sticking to the truth and always trying to show mercy where He can.

Are we giving Him a choice or tempting Him with destruction?

Acts 1:25 to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs.

Just as an aside, how do you look at Judas Iscariot? Do you see him as a man taken by the devil or one who chose evil?

Each of us have a choice to make, whether we follow good or evil. It is our choice!

We are given so many chances in life to know the difference between good and evil, so the choice is real and is informed!

Judas Iscariot chose the path of evil. Some will say he got what he deserved; he got what he chose…

Matthew 10:4 Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

Do yourself a favour and read the previous 3 verses in your bible and look again at this last bit of the sentence…

Jesus called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over impure spirits and disease and sickness. Twelve disciples, not eleven.

Judas may have done wrong, may have been a zealot, may have been all manner of things… but Christ handed out what He had promised to each of them!

God is Just. God is Faithful. God is Holy. God is full of mercy!

Acts 22:3 I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city. I studied under Gamaliel and was thoroughly trained in the law of our ancestors. I was just as zealous for God as any of you are today.

Paul stood up and told the people around him a plain truth – he had learned the Jewish law and ways, even studied them, and kept them!

Yet what did it count as? Nothing!

Sometimes we build up the law and extend the rules just so we can look better than others.

Don’t forget. God made the original law. Don’t even think about comparing yourself to Him!

Hebrews 10:26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left

If we went back to offering sacrifices for our sins, just how far would you go to find a perfect lamb to offer as a sacrifice to get rid of all your sins?

What happens then when you go back and do those same sins again? What do you look for next?

Don’t make Christ’s death on the cross of no consequence! Try to do what is right by trying to obey God – that is all He is asking…

He knows we are not perfect – we just need to try.
