Luke 11:13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!

All of mankind is generally evil; not that we are all mass murderers but we have all sinned and come short of God’s rules and regulations.

And yet, even though we are all in line for the naughty prize, we are still able to forgive others and to give out any number of presents!

We all love to buy young children toys and gifts just to see them happy and rejoicing.

Have you stopped to think of all the things God has allowed into your life just so He can see us rejoice?

John 4:10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

Think about what Jesus is saying He is giving this woman? Is it the Holy Spirit? Somehow I don’t think so; I think it is more likely to the Himself.

Jesus was going to give Himself for those people who did not yet believe. This woman became a believer based on what Christ was telling her.

Christ was giving a beautiful picture of His own sacrifice which was needed before she could become a believer and receive the Holy Sprit.

John 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.

There is only one who came from Heaven and continues to be the living bread; the author and giver of life eternal, Christ Jesus.

You have just got to remind yourself of this fact now and again to realise just how lucky we are to have a Saviour who gave it all for us and continues to be there always and forever.

Jesus may have performed miracles giving out bread to thousands of people, but the bread talked about here is the spiritual bread which leads us to a life of glory with Him in Heaven.

Jesus physically gave Himself for us!

Titus 2:14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

Christ did not give up a prophet or a king for us, He did not sacrifice the biggest goat or anything else; He gave His own life for us.

Christ knew there would be nothing on earth which would be good enough to pay for our sin debt and to purify us enough to be with God.

He also knew not all of us would give our lives back to Him or would choose to follow Him; but He still came forward for those of us who were willing to take that step forward with Him.
