Galatians 2:19 For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God.

Being dead means you cannot go looking for something; ergo, being dead to the law means you should not go looking for the law. In this context, looking for justification through the law should not be done because we are dead to that law.

The law is there to show us that we are sinners and steer us in the right direction; it is not there to say ‘follow me and I will save you’.

It is only Christ who can say that!

Romans 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

The letter written to the Romans is scathing in many ways because it shows us that we are definitely sinners no matter how good we think we may be!

It also shows us that even though we may follow the rules to the fullest extent, we are still guilty before God because of what goes through our hearts and minds.

Jesus paid for our sin debt a long time ago but without this book we call our bible, we would not know just how much we do owe Him!

Deuteronomy 27:26  ‘Cursed is the one who does not confirm all the words of this law by observing them.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’

Sometimes it takes a harsh word for us to stop and think about what we are doing and these last few verses in this chapter are harsh and need to be read!

The old law was written to show people what is right and wrong but also to remind us that wrong things bring on consequences!

We need to follow God’s Word. Not just the parts we want, but all of it, and to do it now!

James 2:10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.

If we were to rely just on the scriptures from the Old Testament we would very quickly find out that we fall short of the rules and regulations; which makes us guilty of everything!

But those same scriptures point to a Messiah which would solve this problem for us by coming to take away that sin debt from us when we truly believe on Him.

Christ came to fulfil that prophecy and now we do have to take on that truth so that we will be able to be forgiven and be not guilty before God!
