James 2:9 But if you show favouritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as law-breakers.

Is favouritism a sin in itself? No. But when we do show it we often get caught up in our own feelings and put aside the law!

The sin is turning our backs on the law that God gives us just so that we can do what we want to for someone else; that is actually lifting up the person above God.

God has already told us many times that we should not lift up anything or anyone above Him because He is Sovereign God.

Love that special someone, but love God first of all.

John 7:24 Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.

There are times when we do judge people just because of the way that they look or even talk! Sometimes we may even be half right…

Christ continued to fight an uphill battle with the Scribes and Pharisees as they continued to judge people because of their social position rather than for what they actually were.

God looks inside our hearts and knows what we are like from the inside – allow what people have on the inside to come out before you break everything!

Luke 13:15 The Lord then answered him and said, “Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it?

One of the things that Jesus showed the people was that they had taken God’s Word and had twisted it beyond what is written down into something they could manage.

God’s Word is never meant to be changed and certainly not to be used as a tool by which man can have his own way!

Jesus had no issue with healing on the Sabbath because that was not work but an act of God’s love. Don’t use excuses to hide behind, not even on God’s day of rest!

Exodus 34:21 Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest; in ploughing time and in harvest you shall rest.

When God set the law about resting on the seventh day it was not something that could be changed over time but something that was set throughout time!

The Ten Commandments were written on stone tablets so that they lasted for as long as possible. God wants us to remember His law continually.

We all come up with various excuses how we can do some work on the seventh day, but God reminds us here that there are no excuses!
